    quick question on Skull Crushers

When I do Skull Crushers, should I lower the bar directly over my forehead, or behind my head? I've been getting some conflicting opinions on this although I seem to feel it more when I lower it over my forehead.

Some like to do skullcrushers to the forehead, others behind. Semantics will say that going behind is a french press, and not a skull crusher; skull crushers, being you are supposed to drop right over your skull, and no shoulder movement, while the french press allows for the arm to move backwards to drop it behind the head.

Do them both, see what you feel is more effective, and do that one.

try doing them on a decline bench instead of flat. Places more emphasis on your tris.

I like the variation Dorian shows in the video below starting at 8:50- upper arm remains stationary and the bar goes over the head.

Today I tried keeping my arms at a 45 degree (or so) angle and going to the top of my head, felt a lot better in terms of hitting the muscle and not the tendons.

However, I find that toward the end of the set I am cheating and rotating my shoulders so that my elbow is pointing out instead of toward my feet (this happened before I changed the angle of my arms too) but it's only the last bit of movement, basically to get the elbow to lockout. Is this "acceptable" cheating or am I setting myself up for injury? Should I even be aiming for that lockout or should I be stopping just shy?

First post - don't kill me.

I prefer to do them decline...you get a longer ROM and more stretch in the muscle. I keep the upper arm vertical throughout the movement, and let the bar fall where it may on the bottom of the rep.

I've always done it on a flat bench. I oughta try this sometime.

Decline is an awesome variation. When on a flat bench I go to my forehead since that is what feels natural to me...
