Starting keto diet today.. any tips?

    Hey everyone,

I've never tried the keto diet before, I've done some reading on the subject but have some questions regarding it, and looking for any tips anyone has who has been using it.

Should I still follow the same calorie requirements based on my daily BMR - 500 or so to lose that extra fat?

Tips on supplimenting/carb free protein powder?

From what I can gather I want to stay under 5% carbs for keto, anyone have any good links to meal ideas or just keep it simple?

    Thanks!

    Thanks!
The two why proteins that I have used that I like are Scivation or Isopure, both have 1G carbs.

Eat real food. Base your keto diet on oily fish, whole eggs, fresh meat, chicken, lots and lots and LOTS of green vegetables, butter, olive oil, nuts, cheese. No fake food, no Net Carb junk.

Keep your fat high, and your carbs low. Whey after lifting only, real food the rest of the time.

    Read my sig.
    65% fat, 30% protein, 5% carbs = keto.

Don't go overboard on protein, stick to the percentages in Eileen's sig, and don't neglect your fiber intake. Also, yes, stick to the standard maintenance-500 guideline as to calorie intake.

Interesting - lots of green veggies? I'm trying to determine how this is much different than my normal diet - I guess its the ratio's involved..

On keto, plan to fill half your plate with green veg at every sit down meal. You'll probably find you are eating more veg than on a "healthy balanced" diet, Don't worry, spinach and broccoli will not affect ketosis.
