I'm 48 now and I've been doing my time in the gym. Can I experience muscle growth at my age? Any comments would be appreciated.

In my opinion, yes. Is it easy? No. BUT, again it is possible and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!
It will require a lot of of reasl work and laser like planning, and as we are both older, checking into options such as HRT, a nutritionist, etc etc.
It can be done, but it definitely cannot be done haphazardly.
Good luck!

I have really been surprised at the gains I've made over the past couple months. I guess I never thought that a 40 year old could do this. It has been a slow go for me at times...sore joints, etc., but I think it's still worth the effort. I really hate to say it, but I just might actually be in better shape now than when I was in my 20's. Keep up the hard work, it will pay off for you.

According to your stats, you are benching 405, squatting 440 and deadlifting 450. Getting to that level after only 2 years of training is phenomenal progress to say the least! A person of any age would be thrilled with those results, and goes to show that you don't need to break out the rocking chair and walker just because you turn 40.

I just came back from a great Fathers Day dinner at my son's home (he is older than you) and he asked how much lean muscle I planned on adding (I'm natural) this comming year before I step on stage July 2010 at the Over 70 Nationals. Told him I was hoping for 10 pounds but realisticly will settle settle for 6. 5 pounds in my legs 1 pound in my arms. This past 2 1/2 years I have broken 3 bones in my leg, tore a groin muscle and got arthritic gout.
Think you can do it??

Good to see you have the interest. Now you need to work on the patience and dedication. If you succeed, you will change your life and positively affect all those around you. There is something about doing it when all you have ever heard were negative comments about this impossible dream. If you really want it you will experience a narcotic like rush of controlling your own potential, your own destriny. You see there is no age barrier, that's just an excuse from those without your willpower, your drive. God willing, as your physical strength grows, you too will touch some of those around you who will turn to you for advice and leadership because of the success and knowledge they see in you. I'm coming up on 68 and those who see me in the gym, at the pool or on the tee, ask how, and then exercise, diet and supplementation become topics of interest. Last month I crushed a 5 wood 280 yds. Today my playing partner called to say he decided to go for it and just recieved his Cissus from BB.com for his joint problems. He expects his Fish Oil tomorrow for his congestive heart problems. If he improves like dozens of my friends and family, my original persuit of adding strength and muscle will have added one more dividend to the sweat equity I pay in the gym. If Baldie and I and others our age can still improve, then you have decades of potential that only you can tap. Go for it and enjoy! Viel Glueck!

I miss President Reagan. The Gipper was an amazing American Leader. But I digress.
Back to the topic at hand. YES.. I have been training a 43 year old male. He was a skinny, fat dude. He had spaghetti arms and a big freakin' gut. He looked like a pregnant troll.
12 weeks later, he lost 25 pounds of fat and gained 10 pounds of lean body mass.
SO YEAH, MAN! Like the others said, you gotta bust your ass. Good luck. This above all..

you probably won't have the results like a testosterone raging teen, but yes it would be possible, and is very much so. don't let anything stop you!!
Nutrition and hard work = muscle.
Best of luck,
