I would like to incorporate band deadlifts in my program soon. To do this, I will need a platform specifically made to allow even fitting of bands for deadlifts.
Here is one that elitefts has on sale: http://www.flexcart.com/members/elit...id=114&pid=339
Here's an example of some dude using the Jump Stretch Platform for Deads: http://www.weighttrainersunited.com/...hplatform.html
Does anyone here know of anywhere else where I can purchase one of these platforms for deadlifts?
Also, if some of you guys are already doing band deadlifts without a platform, how have you effectively been setting it up? I would wrap bands around the bottom of the power rack at my gym, but the one we have doesn't give an inch on the bottom for the bands to fit through . Also, I've read some guys stand on the bands, but I would imagine this wouldn't be as effective and safe as using the platform.
I suppose this could have been posted under the "Exercise Equipment" category, but I figured you PLers may have some ideas too .
Thanks for any comments or advice .

I'm paying $17NZD p/w at the moment, which i think is about 13.50USD. The more commercial gyms are around 20USDp/w. My gym is purely powerlifting/strength focussed, the owners doing it for love of the sport rather than $$$.

That's awesome dude. In the city I live in (with over 2 million people), there is only one powerlifting/strength gym around, and it's over $100 a month!
The commercialized fitness gym provides much better prices though, although my gym gets upset when lifters use chalk !
Happy lifting, dude.USMC: 1999-2003; 2009-Current

Like I mentioned in the original post, I've seen dudes do this, but it doesn't seem like the safest nor the most accurate way to do band deads. Even the slightest change in the set up could alter the resistance curve, which I want to keep constant so I can accurately quantify progress and resistance. Thanks for your input though.
Hey dude, I gotta find this place then! I'll keep my eyes open, thanks Anuj!
This was one of my concerns as well.
I see in your sig that you are competing next month in your first comp. Good luck man! If San Jose wasn't so far, I'd probably do that meet as well. From the stats under your avatar, I'm guessing you are gonna cut down to make weight to lift under the 220 lb weight class? What are some of the lifts you are shooting for?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I emailed Elitefts, and they provided that the platform is only 2 feet by 2 feet, and is portable (Even from the picture posted in my second link above shows provides a visual cue of its size). I will most likely get this platform then!Last edited by iron619; 04-17-2008 at 11:20 AM.

Thanks for posting that link.
Wow, that dude is creative, especially with that home-made mono lift!
I checked out the last two post as well. That would appear to work, however, I can't permanently install a deadlift platform at my commercial fitness gym, haha. He also noted that the cost would be between $100-$150. At the site I provided, they are selling it for only $135, and they provide free shipping almost every week (Usually between Tues-Thur).
Thanks again.USMC: 1999-2003; 2009-Current

thats a good deal for the platform! might as well pick it up...
anyways i use the platform at Southside but otherwise i loop under the power rack (we got a good one) BUT your other option is just grab the heaviest dumbbells in your gym and set them up under the bar between the plates. they wont budge as long as you dont get crazy with the tension. If what I see does not amaze me, I am not looking hard enough.

yeah buddy!
For sure dude. It's pretty reasonable, especially since I will be using it on a weekly basis, and it's not like it will break in a year or something, lol.
Gotcha. I see most gyms have a decent power rack, and in those cases, can easily loop the band through the bottom. Unfortunately, our power rack isn't even the "full size" one--it is only roughly 18 inches wide ! I guess I should be happy to have that at our 24 Hour Fitness .
Regarding the dumbbells, I take it you guys have the hexagon/plastic dumbbells. We have the round ones that will definitely roll around, unless we get another set and maybe wedge it together.
Hey Mike, I thought about this too, but I wonder how this will work with the medium jump stretch bands, let alone doubling them up! Thanks buddy.
Cool man; does your dumbbells have circular plates or hexagon/plastic?USMC: 1999-2003; 2009-Current

Yeah dude, I am anxious to start doing reverse band deadlifts as well. For me, I was planning on keeping the height of the safety bars constant, while simply adding more weight to the bar. I never have a hard time locking out (do lots of rack pulls/dimels...etc), but more from the "hole".
From your post, you determined the height of the safety bars by putting it just high enough so that bar floats. Where exactly in regards to your shins does the bar float? Most likely the pretty close to where a regular barbell with 45s would start you, I assume.
Hope this makes sense.USMC: 1999-2003; 2009-Current

yeah it floats just above the bottom bars of the rack, which is a little lower than where it would be if it was on a 45 plate. i love bands for deads (both directions) i havent found a good set up for squats yet though, but IMO theres enough variables in a squat that i dont find the bands necessary. plus i feel like it might throw me off balance big time.

Got it. So once you find the optimal height for the safety bars, you then load up a bunch of plates, so to speak. Once you load up enough plates, the barbell plates will then touch the floor. At this point, how much do the bands really help, especially if you are working with weights of near 550-600 lbs? I can't imagine the bands being that helpful at that point, but I suppose it depends on the band(s) used and also the starting height of the safety bars. I will then have to find the optimal height for the bands to be beneficial (because at those weights, the higher the placement of the bands, the more help you should have). I have yet to try this set up, so watcha think?

well using the 40inch bands, we had it set up so that there would be 45lbs taken off the start of the lift, and by knee level the tension was gone and it was all iron. it provides a nice pop off the floor, just enough to give you good speed to drive up past the knees. what we did was just lower it every week until it provided minimal help, then pulled a max. these wer blue bands, so different ones will provide different tensions. definately gotta play around with it, but these are my favorite variations by far for deads.

I haven't tried reverse band deads yet, but hopefully I will soon!
For sure man, the proper/optimal heights will also depend on the lifter's anthropometrics (your set up will be different than mine; your taller). I will definitely play around with it and figure it out. Thanks for the tips man.USMC: 1999-2003; 2009-Current
