i love all the negativity about the leg press. done right it is an invaluable aid to bringing up the quads without needing the core to hold up under the heavy weight
You would be surprised just how much time I have to waste.

I think 1000 is pretty impressive since I feel that I will soon be able to ATG 225 before I could hit 1000 on leg press. Unless it is one of those weight stacks with the pulley. Also calling a lot of E-stats on all these 1000 pound pressers. Would like to see ROM and it actually being done.

Now, the second issue is that a leg press completely removes the limiting factor in a squat, and that is lower back strength. Your legs are probably much stronger than your lower back will allow you to express, and you can see that on the leg press. Even with the mechanical advantage factored in, I'll bet your legs are moving twice as much weight on the leg press in comparison to your squat. If you want to get your squat up, strengthening your lower back is in order.
    This.

Plus if you don't know how to properly activate your glutes that could hinder you as well.

Squats are a much better exercise.

I don't think anyone is denying it's impressive. But being able to squat is a much more useful measure and much better in terms of functional strength.

But I have 2 friends who play hockey and rarely leg press or lift for that matter and both can leg press over 1000.

true. the squat is more effective not only because of its effectiveness for leg strength but for the full body benefits as well. not to mention it is a mentality builder as well

Plus there is much more variations.

You could even use it as a form of cardio with light enough weight.

you could use ANY exercise as an endurance exercise with enough reps/light enough weight.

there are varying stances for leg press as well that will emphasize different things. and you can also use the leg press as a calf raise machine

dont get me wron gi dont tout any exercise over another but i do believe squats to be superior in most cases. but i also dont believe the leg press should be discarded simply because you can overload insane amounts of weight on it even WITH good form and depth.
You would be surprised just how much time I have to waste.

I don't think you can actually Leg Press 1000 pounds, OP. If your legs were strong enough to do that, Squatting a measly 200 pounds would be warmup weight.

Your Leg Press ROM is probably extremely short.

At 6' 5", I would guess he has long femurs. In order to mechanically do an ATG squat he would have to widen his foot placement and toe out more than someone who is shorter. A traditional shoulder width foot placement would likely put him into an akward, unstable position.

I agree completely. That would be about 11 plates and change on each side of the machine.

I squat a little more than OP and I don't think I could hit that for even one GOOD rep, and I would look like a complete jackass for hogging all the plates.

So a guy who goes up from say 300 to 500 lbs on the squat should have increased his leg press by 2000 lbs? By the numbers in this thread the guy should be leg pressing around 3000 lbs.

    People are going insane.

did this last night. Widened my stance and flared my toes out more and was able to do more easily

is that 5 sets of 3 reps or 3 sets of 5 reps? i dont use BB for benchpress much anymore.... and do you mean you are going to start bodybuilding when you get 3x5x225?

I meant I'm famous and that was a joke lol

And yeah all I've heard before was "feet shoulder width and toes forward" - but making the wider stance change with flared toes drastically increased performance. I've got size 16 feet too so maybe that's somethin else

Yes. i mean 3 sets of 5 reps like the program SS wants u to do. And yea i will Body build once i hit 225 . 3x5 bench.

By the time i bench 225 3x5. i should hit like 400 deadlift 1x5 and i should hit 315 ATG squats atleast and my OHP at 135.

I think thats a solid strength base to go start body building.

Than i guess ill just do a 3 day split. chest/tri . Back/bi . legs/shoulders and rest days inbetween em.

    like bench/incline/flyes/dips or crushers
    deadlift/yatesrow/weighted pullups/barbell curl
    ATG squats/quad ext/lying ham curl/calf press/donkey press/OHP/laterall raises

man that leg day looks like a b!tch. . .

hmm maybe i can do a 4 day split.

yeah i got 2 leg days. one is more posterior chain and hamstring dominant while the other is quad dominant.
i used an Ortmeyer scheme for my deads so my session last week went:
    4x4x350
    1x2x400
    1x2x450
    1x9x350
    Set x Rep x Weight

    my last squat session was:
    Warmup 135x10, 185x8, 225x8
    Work 300x5, 300x5, 300x5
    Cooldown 225x6, 225x6

i am working my way back up on high bar squat to get more depth.... low bar squats for a while killed my form a little lol.
You would be surprised just how much time I have to waste.

    im curious tho. 400lb gorilla.

in SS u try and go up in weight as fast as possible.
But when i Body Build. How the **** would i even add weight.

lets say for example when i bench/incline/flyes.
    and 3x10.

SS gives the athlete 3 attemps. 3 fails and u resett. **** idk if u could go from 225 to 230 in 3 days. and especially 3x10's. god ****.

    it'd be like.

    225 10/8/4
    225 10/8/6
    225 10/9/7

or something like that. And u can't forget the incline and the flyes. That ****ing insaine.

So like im wondering. Do i just do it until i get 3x10 easy without worrying about how many chest attempts ive had? or should i keep in a mind a sorta "reset" thing like in SS. Like trying to go up in all 3 things in 3 day attempts sounds pretty mother ****ing nuts to me.

Really? I love low bar squats. i hate the high bar. high bar hurts and i have to use that puss pad. Low bar feels amazing. like its painless and it sits ontop of so much more muscle instead of just the traps. And low bar reduces distance, reducing torque on ur back.

I think i do ATG fine with low bar, but w/e works for u ahaha. mmm 400 lb gorilla. im coming for ur 300 lb squats. Just 40 more lbs to go.
