im new here and need advice bad. people give good answers here. will pullups make my arms bigger. people at the gym confuse me. the big guys say no and the little guys say yes. who is right and who is wrong. im thinking about buying a pullup bar to work on them. what do you guys think.

Your shoulders and tris are hit when doing pullups. If you really wanna work the biceps though do some close grip chin ups.

Im not sure if this is serious?? I have been in too many arguments recently over this exact topic, and to avoid any potential arguments and./or infractions im going to say this:
Alot of people will give you varied answers.. Pull ups are a back exercise imo so keep it that way although chin ups imo have worked wonders for me and my arms are progressing nicely.... It works for some people and not for others..~~~~~~~~~~

they work ur biceps aswell...u wont suddenly get huge arms from doing pullups but they do work ur biceps....and to a degree ur triceps but its mostly a back exercise.

You should do chin ups instead of pull ups if you really want to put more emphasis on your arms. And if you are able to do more than 8 bodyweight chin ups per set then start adding weight. Start with 10lbs and when you can do 8+ reps per set move up to 20 lbs and etc.

yes they do they are one of the muscle parts being used will doing pullups but its not the major the back is the main muscle so dont expect to get huge arms to do that do some bicep and tricep workouts

Pullups use a pronated(palms away) grip. They are great for your back. They have only a little carryover to bis.
Chins use a supinated(palms towards) grip. They are great for your back. They have a lot of carryover to bis.
Don't be afraid to do strict curls. Stand with back to the wall or rack if you can't otherwise avoid using body english to get the weight up. The "curl grip hang clean" that you see so many people do, is no good for bis, or anything else, and is not a real curl.

alot of people seem to forget that it also works abs, abs are the main reason I cant do a pull up right now, that and im a fat mofo but abs mainly

If you want big arms, do arm exercises. If you want to work your back, do back exercises like pullups, chins, rows.....blah blah blah. Obviously, any pulling movement will work your arms to some extent, although I don't know why people are saying it works your triceps (with exception of behind the neck pulldowns or pullups working the long head of the triceps). Either way, your are muscles are simply synergists in these exercises. You will get more gains focussing on exercises where the muscle you want to grow is the prime mover.

It is one of those excercise which makes use of most of your upper body , so just simply answering your question No it won't make them grow much but if you do it with other arm excercises it will benefit you a lot .
