[QUOTE=Pro Serge Nubret;160804501]Exactly, I love to make people thinks. YOU HAVE AROUND YOU "IN THE NATURE" ALL THE ANSWERS.
Hi Serge,
Just wanted to tell you the training has been going great. physically I have been making great progress, but mentally I have grown and am growing even more so. The connection you speak of here between mind, body, and soul helps a great deal in terms of working out, but also in terms of focus and achieving goals for the future. Since reading this thread and books during my down time like "think and grow rich", "the greatest miracle in the world" etc. your words hold even more weight here than I think many see. They look for the perfect workout, the perfect diet, but to me I see it's about finding that desire in oneself to be the best one can be mentally and physically. I thanked you one before and am going to thank you again for the passing of your knowledge here.
Is your book available in English? I would love to read it.
Being a bodybuilder 365 days a year is something we all should strive to be, because it really isn't about just building the perfect physique, but the desire to build up everything that makes our bodies whole.

yes exactly. I was a member back in 2002 but rarely posted. Why might you ask? Simple. There is a lot of talkers on these boards now a days. Everyone is selling a supplement, everyone was looking for the quick fix. I was guilty of that. Spending 3-500 dollars a month getting sucked into stuff that never really made a difference. I realized in the end I trained harder because I wanted the supplements to work, but if I just trained hard in the first place I wouldn't need all of them. I could have saved a lot of money. Now I stick to amino acids, fish oil and vitamins.
I also talked a bit about nonsense stuff but nothing really that made me think. Thats what I enjoy about this thread. What Serge is talking about here is knowledge that supplements can't give.
So if you want to base my credibility on my few posts, that's fine. But my life experiences in and out of the weight room far exceed my what is it now..175 posts?

Hello Nubretizers,
What Serge is saying is that the Golden age Bodybuilders 1970's - 1994, there was musch less around as goes supplements, all that they had to eat was 'real' food, and not pour down 300gms of protein powder a day plus all sorts of Creatine powders and this and that amino pills. I'm not against supplements, I'm just backing up the image of todays champions that look like battery hens compared to a old time farmyard chicken that run around all day eating stuff to survive.
To me, todays Bodybuilding legends look like HUGE competition bulls loaded in growth hormones that walk at 0.5 miles/hour, sit and eat all day. Compared to a Spanish Bull that is wild and is for bullfighting and looks beautiful.
It doesn't look even healthy when you see some of the Bodybuilders today who look like they came out of someones Butt ! Striated glutes with bloated abdominals, HUGE thighs that make their nuts look like peanuts!
Wearing ridiculously super small LATEX posing trunks. I'm not going to destroy everything here....I'm also impressed at how far you can push it musclewise!
I mean putting a 24inch arm on a 5ft10 shortish guy. You're not a giant at 5ft10! weighing over 300lbs is as if you had a 6ft4 guy weighing 400lbs cut, it would look like a lump of turd!

Sure, Jay might not be the most aesthetically pleasing bodybuilder. But there's still been a lot of 'beautiful' physiques since Serge's day.

By the way Serge, where are you in this picture?
It appears to be the same place as where Lee Haney's at.

hey serege
i have a question
first of all i thought you were one of the best looking bodybuilders around.
so you aid that when you came into the olympia at 212lbs that you were proportionally bigger than arnold.
this is understandable.
so, they you said that they saw the condition you were in and told you that you could not compete that way.
what does that mean?
can you elaborate on that subject a little bit?
once again, i appreciate you taking your time to post on here and it means a lot.
thank you

Serge will answer this question I'm sure. He has told me about it a few times and this is 'my version' of the story:
Back in 1975 Serge was in Fantastic shape. He had Lou Ferrigno training in Paris in his gym and Serge was way ahead in Proportional mass and mucle density, cuts etc.
When he arrived in South Africa (Pretoria?) for the Olympia 1975, Ben Weider insisted that he should not be allowed to compete (on hearing from other competitors and Photographers that Serge was in AMAZING condition) It looks like Serge was in his best ever condition and it was posing a serious threat to Arnold keeping his crown at the Olympia that year . Why? because the Film 'Pumping Iron' was pushing Arnold as The King of Bodybuilding and that it was unconceivable that Serge Nubret beat Arnold, it would mess up all the previous filming. There was also an incident in Paris when Serge refused the film crew to use the film on Serge because they offered him a miserable 200$ for the rights to his image. At that time Serge was already participating regularly in other films and he knew the value of his image was worth more...he even said that if they had asked it for free he would have offered...but 200$ made the whole thing feel like (being used!) - South Africa was Arpatheid country also could this have contributed also?
I remember Serge saying that there was a false reason that Ben Weider was using as to the allegations that Serge was not allowed to compete "That Serge had a small role in a porno film!" which is false.
On hearing this....I can't even imagine the huge feeling of stress, frustration, and even despair that Serge must have felt, after all to compete at that level takes about 1 year solid preparation, money, efforts...the list goes on!
So after the first two workouts 2 weeks from the prejuging at the Olympia Serge just stopped training, what for? being banned, kicked out of the Olympia for no reason. The day before the contest Ben Weider allows him to compete.Meanwhile Serge had not trained for 2 weeks and had lost 10kg of solid muscle not to mention definition. He still managed to wop big Lou Ferrigno! Ok History has it That King Arnold won the Olympia, but it was not the only time Arnold was to get some favouritism. 1972, 1975 and especially 1980 in Sydney Australia.
Serge, I hope I didn't mess your story up too much. I wasn't there you were and that's already fabulous. I was a kid of 13 then.Last edited by JulienP; 05-02-2008 at 02:05 PM.

For Bodybuilding to be respected it must have respectable Champions. Now I'm sure that Jay and Ronnie and the others are serious people. However, easthetics are a reality, they are personal too. Do you like the Miss Olympia Bodybuilders physiques the answer for me is NO, I like the physique contestants, it's more human, it's feminine. Well for Bodybuilders 'men' it's a question of do you like a human sculpture or do you want a Bovine humanoid breed? or Hey HOw far can we Push the Human Freak experiment..??? Yeah right. Here's to my striated Glutes! Cheers - let's not split that latex poing G string!

I'm sorry to go on with this subject, but a guy like Jay or Ronnie what's their lifes expectancy? How's their heart and organs. Are they still able to....? or have they blown that away too? I reckon they must freak out each blood test they take. And what in 10 years ?
I tell you this...I got freaked out at what the BIG GUYS are taking. 1gm a day of Testosterone not to mention STH in massive amounts...the internal organs grow too...the bones....the skull and the brain tumours. Why do the Athletes just suddenly disappear? because you can only push your body SO FAR. NO 5ft 10 man was designed to be 300lbs unless he was a Samoan king or a neo Fatso Obese from NYC!
I'm quite big. I'm not a monster. I don't think I could take being stared at 24 hours a day like a Freak thing. You walk down a street with a guy as big as Jay even bigger and You feel like you're walking with this guy : see photo......umm he's just a friend!Last edited by JulienP; 05-02-2008 at 02:30 PM.

can you still get good results by cutting down the # of sets on Serge's routine? i only do 4 sets per exercises, but i'm still getting a massive pump going on and i feel it major in my muscles. 4 x 12 with 15-30 seconds rest between sets and once i can reach 12 reps i add 5lbs to the bar. so even arms its only 8 sets a day but 16 sets a week and my arms get a crucial pump doing 8 sets non-stop they hurt afterward! haha. its still much more volume then the average lifter who only does 12-16 sets a week per body-part im doing 32 sets a week for chest/back/legs/shoulders, which is way more then every other lifter in the gym that i see.
heres my back workout.
72 weighted pull-ups
4 x 12 bent-over bb rows
4 x 12 seated cable rows
4 x 12 pullovers
i only do pullovers on back day.
for chest its every other exercise except pullovers
4 x 12 wide flat bench
4 x 12 flat flys
4 x 12 wide incline bench
4 x 12 incline flys
is this still a decent workout to get good results? its Serge's but less volume. The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides with the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and good will shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon those with great vengeance and with furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know that my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

One question Mr. Nubret. In an extreme sport like bodybuilding one makes sacrifices to health, but bodybuilders also take very good care of themselves in many other ways. Do you think a lifelong commitment to bodybuilding has helped you live a healthier life even past 60 years of age?

Myself, I never sacrified my health for bodybuilding, when I started training I said I want to be the youngest bodybuilder ever and the oldest to be able to guest pose at a world championship, what I did at 65 years old. I was going to discotech, eating good food without diet, love to live in the large sense of this word.

The picture of Serge says it all. It will always be a great physique even in 100 years time! like the scultures in the museums after 2000 years there still pieces of art, well Serge has been blessed with the luck of one who had the piece of human art his body.....now if the mind and soul is attached....
I can't think anyone can be great if they don't feel great! Serge how did you feel when you had that rocket propelled body?

Old age is a thing everyone will 'hopefully' have to face one day or another. How do you 'take it' when you have been so far into the perfection zone bodywise? By the way having trained with you your not yet there! you're still freakishly strong.

I had Liam my brother (twin) train with me yesterday. We did a great workout training shoulders, arms abs and calves. He was a little suspect about the system ABC and the 6x12 per exercise, or 8x12 for the press behing neck, anyway , today he phoned me up to say that his traps were fabulously sore and that he now understands what Volume Training the Nubretization way really is...and that it hits your muscles DEEP in the fibres.
Liam & I have trained some time and each time we would take time off training more than a 2 weeks period we did feel soreness when you get your first 3 workouts in; but today Liam said that he really felt the difference,in the Trapezius muscles, why ? Serge lifts the bar up high on the upright rows and we did it yesterday...he's in bits, lovely!

diet questions
Serge,
I remember you said when your body said "Serge you got to eat."
Is this because you held out from eating a long time?
Night before, I eat good amount of carbs for energy.
In the morning I do abs then legs or chest, but then i'm not hungry. I feel a little urge to eat but it isn't very big. 1) Should I wait until the urge is VERY BIG to eat? Of course then eating a big meal.
Reason I ask is because it is beleived by many so called experts that you must always eat in the slightest instance to preserve your muscle.
thank you
