Why does whey protein "contain soy"?

Pretty much all whey protein products I have seen write "contains soy" on them.

    Why is that?

Is there a whey protein that does not contain soy at all?

because a lot of them are processed in the same facilities that may process soy products. Same reason you see "may contain nuts, may contain soy" written on a million different things that don't have nuts or soy in them.

If soy is not listed in the ingredients, then it doesn't any more than minuscule trace amounts of it.

    Thank you for your answer.
I am by no means an expert, and this is why I am asking here, but it seems to me that soy / soy lecithin are included on purpose in almost every whey out there..
Is it true, or are there just traces in there?

Are there any whey products that guarantee to be soy free?

are you afraid of the so called "estrogen raising effects" of soy which have been debunked already or are you allergic to it?

even straight up whey protein isolate with nothing in it has traces of soy lecithin

Wouldn't that mean that milk itself has traces of soy lecithin, since whey is extracted off milk?
I still cannot understand where these traces come from

I am not allergic to soy, but it seems a bit weird to me how a product that is supposed to be extracted from milk has soy traces in it, and this happens in every brand actually, so I am interested to learn how this happens.

    Thank you for your answer.

    from wikipedia under lecithin

"It improves wetting properties of hydrophilic powders (e.g. low-fat proteins) and lipophilic powders (e.g. cocoa powder), controls dust, and helps complete dispersion in water"

I think the soy that is in protein is to prevent clumping, or something along those lines.

    edit: above poster got it

Yo, I know this is from 13 years ago, but as a Philly native (non Bodybuilder who looked up soy in whey), thanks for giving Luther his due.

That's because some brands use soy lecithin as an emulsifier to improve the mixability of the powder. But don't worry, there are definitely whey protein options without soy. Just check the ingredient list carefully or look for ones labeled "soy-free."
