I just wanted to share this with you guys, Bob is a local middle school coach here in town. Congrats Bob.... sorry if this is a repost
Bob O'Brien went after two world records last week and believes he set them.
He won't know for sure until the Guinness Book of World Records and the World Record Federation review the videotape and the accompanying paperwork detailing the events, but if all goes as expected, the 39-year-old Middle School teacher will own the mark for most pull-ups in one minute (46) and most bench presses at your body weight in one hour (334).
O'Brien performed the events on back-to-back days last Wednesday and Thursday. The Guinness pull-up record was 42. Guiness, however, didn't recognize the bench press record, but the World Record Federation did and created a new category for it.
"Since it was new, I could've done one and been in the book, but my goal was 400," said O'Brien, who attempted a Guinness record for most pull-ups in an hour last February and came up 24 short of the 701 record.
He said the bench press was tougher.
"It was the most excruciating pain I've ever felt in my life," O'Brien said.
"It's hard to train for the bench press record because after 20 minutes, it's so painful."
O'Brien lost seven pounds to get down to 149 so he could do more repetitions of 150 pounds.
Had he stayed at 156, lifting the extra weight would've been harder and likely wouldn't have reached 334.
"I wanted to do as many as possible, so if someone else does it, they're going to go through some pain, too," said O'Brien, who dedicated the record to his late brother by performing it on his brother's birth date.
O'Brien said training for both events was doable because he was working two different muscle groups.
He hopes to take a shot at more records, either existing ones or ones of his own invention, by going online and seeing what's out there.
"I like the challenge," O'Brien said.

Unless there were certified Judges, this would be very easy to manipulate the video tape time codes, and even the number of reps, not to mention the weight issues.
However, I am not saying he may have cheated, just that I hope he did not go through all this for nothing.
I have done maybe 20-22 reps at body weight. (But in an hour, I may have been able to do 40-50, I really don't know.) So I have just a few more to do, yea like maybe 300 or so.

seriously, this sort of thing is so extraordinary that i would have to see it to believe it. it's amazing.
i can do a decent mile, a decent marathon, an intermediate qualification on the big 3 lifts, but these guys... well, they are simply way beyond anything normal; like the relative strength of ants or something. congrats to them!!!!
