Second is the much higher price of BSN.
IMHO, I would go with CytoGainer or Universal Gains before any other weight gainer sold at bb.com and yes I did look at EVERYONE of them, hehe. You can live a healthy life without Carbs.

CytoSport Cyto Gainer
Serving Size: 4 Scoops (150g)
Amount Per Serving:
Calories: 620

Total Fat: 5g
Saturated Fat: 3g
Total Carbohydrates: 80g
Fiber: 4g
Sugars: 5g
Protein: 56g

Universal Real Gains
Serving Size: 3.5 Scoops (155g)
Amount Per Serving:

Calories from Fat 53
Total Fat 6g
Saturated Fat 3g
Total Carbohydrates 87g
Fiber 5g
Sugars 5g
Protein 52g
---------------------------------
BSN True-Mass
Serving Size: 3 Scoops (145g)
Amount Per Serving:
Calories 626
Calories from fat 140
Total Fat 15.5g
Saturated Fat 5g
Total Carbohydrates 75g
Fiber 5g
Sugars 13.5g
Protein 46g
-------------------------------------------
From the above stats, you only need 145g for True-Mass to achieve 626 calories but it contains more than twice sugar than the other two. That probably makes it tastier. That 3.5 scoop serving is weird. Why can't RealGains just deal with 3 or 4 scoops? BTW, what is the difference between pre-digested, ion-exchanged whey protein hydrosylate and whey protein isolate which CytoGainer doesn't have.

I would say the extra sugar does not improve the taste because one of the reasons I love it is it barely has NO sweet taste, I would even say it has NONE at all.
I hate sweet taste in powders because you get sick of it after 1-2 days (I do).
Anyways, I look forward to giving feedback on Universal Gains.
If you have the money and don't mind the extra sugar then BSN True Mass is bang on, strawberry flavour is delicious. You can live a healthy life without Carbs.
You'll die if you eliminate proteins or fats.

True-Mass/ cheap BodyFortress whey
i take a mixture what i usually do is 1 1/2 scoops True mass, 2 scoops body fortress whey
my reasons for this is true mass is just too sweet for me, i mean its great but just too much sugar so i get a mixture of the sweet taste +extras and the cheap protien in body fort. It works for me and tastes just fine not as sweet as true mass, and not bad tasting like body fort.

CytoGainer, Real Gains, and True-Mass are the top 3 out there. I've looked at others and they really don't have the amount of calories that the above 3 have for only 145g-155g of serving. That's all you have to look for, the number of calories in relation to the grams per serving (and also the sugar content where less is better).
So from the above 3, it all boils down to the taste & price. I have not tasted any of them so i cannot attest on which one is the tastiest but I calculated the price based on the cheapest I can find on the internet.
$1.14 / serving (21 servings) Real Gains
$1.47 / serving (18 servings) CytoGainer
$1.80 / serving (18 servings) True-Mass
So the winner in terms of value for your money is Real Gains.

I took Ultimate Nutrition 2544 all last summer along with no explode and saw some of my best gains ever. I just purchased a 10LB tub of ultimate nutrition and I might switch to Universal after it's done because of all the hype. I’m keeping a detailed log using the program "cross trainer" so I will actually be able to see which one helped me gain more muscle. I'll keep you posted.

real gains
its Serving Size is 3.5 Scoops (155g)
Amount Per Serving:
Calories 610
Calories from Fat 53
Total Fat 6g 9%
Saturated Fat 3g 14%
Cholesterol 97mg 32%
Total Carbohydrates 87g 29%
Dietary Fiber 5g 19%
Sugars 5g
Protein 52g 104%
Calcium 316mg 32%
Iron 2mg 11%
Sodium 168mg 7%
Potassium 503mg 14%
so to each scoop is 618 / 3.5 = 176 cals
if you exchange one scoop of it with one scoop of on whey
the calculation would be like this
2.5 scoops of real gains = 441 + 1scoop of on whey = 112 cals = 561cals
the point of doing this is to rise the protein intake and to lower the carbs
intake @ the same time
so the result would be like
cals 561
Calories from Fat: 48
total fat 5.25
Total Carbohydrates 65g
sugars 5g
protein 61g
so the ratio of real gains alone is fat=9% carb=57% protein=34%
but with the improved wait gainer
the ratio would be like
vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv
fat=8.5% carb=46.5% protein=43.6%
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
see how the ratio got much better and less dense in calories dropping from
610cals to 561cals which makes it a decent gainer
if you want to add more calories you can add 10ml of flax oil to raise that low
percentage of fats and to put something good in it
i know i went on explaining but to do it the right way bring an empty tub
and fill it with 25 scoops of real gains & 10 scoops of on whey to make
10 servings of your improved ratio new wait gainer
at least easier than going to the kitchen when you dont want to because of
being lazy @ that time lol..................

In my opinion the best weight gainer is N-Large. I beleive this is the best because of the following reasons. It has 52 grams in each serving (4 scoops). Each serving has 600 cal's and if you mix with milk, it'll be around 750cals. The reason why I like this weight gainer the best is because it seemed to be the most effective one out there. I've tryed almost every kind out there too but with N-Large I never felt sick after taking it.

I think Cyto-Gainer is by far one of the best weight gainers I have ever taken. Plus the fact that it has Complex carbs instead of simple carbs is much better than any other weight gainer.

What I used on a regular basis when I was trying to gain weight was MHP's Up Your Mass. The taste was great (Fudge Brownie) and I only took it with water. It was a little difficult to mix though as it got a little clumpy if you added the powder or water first, so i had to add half the water, then the powder, and then the rest of the water and then shake it up.

$33.00 for 5lbs. I could usually get an easy 20+ shakes out of it. I may try the Cytogainer as I am back in a gaining phase.Last edited by bjk75; 10-16-2006 at 07:01 PM.
