I quit five years ago. I smoked three packs a day and quit cold turkey...
While I don't believe it to be true, I'm willing to admit the possibility that some form of intelligence may have started the universe. That being said, I am just as certain that YOUR god doesn't exist as you are certain that the Valkyrie don't carry fallen Viking warriors off to Valhalla.

Well, I quit 8 days ago, for the third, and hopefully last time. Usual reasons, health, money....... Cant say I had the balls to go cold turkey. I am using these lozenges which seem to work, and I have sworn off alcohol for 6 months.

Apart from the occasional intense, short lived urge, I am already feeling better..

Funny how at 41 I finally realised the stupidity of correct eating, working out etc, then lighting up before I got to the car after a workout.

Funny thing... I recently started running wind sprints at the local high school's track. There's a guy there that walks for about an hour... Anyway second time now... he actually lights up while doing his laps. WTF??

Started at 11 and quit at 41. Momma Snake started at 17 and quit when she had her "due to smoking" stroke at 56. She refused to quit in 1981 when I quit saying...."smoking and I are made for each other...I LOVE smoking".

    Need I say more.

When I was 12 I took a big puff from a cig and blacked out! Tried it again when I joined the service and same thing, blacked out.

When you smoke you're at the mercy from whatever poisons those big companies want to put in those cancer sticks.

It's hard to believe anyone would want to slowly poison themselves. The only way to win is don't smoke them.

I quit cold turkey a year and a half ago after smoking off and on in various spurts for twenty years. Never should have ever started to begin with. Bodybuilding and smoking don't go together.

Try getting some Zyban/Wellbutrin. It totally worked for me, and I smoked for 25 years. 2 weeks after taking it, I had no desire to smoke, no cravings, it was actually very easy.

I quit cold turkey three months ago and feel great. It's nice to not wake up weezing every day.

That's great! Wish I could. I keep hoping I hack up a lung while I run so my body finally realizes I don't need it. I've tried to quite more times than I can remember but something always brings it back. I'm really hoping the running helps this time. Anyone else have success with Zyban?

Almost everyone in my age group smoked including myself, have quit many times, sometimes for years before starting again, I am on a good streak of about a year without consistent smoking and 9 months totally clean this time. I never say never. I just consider it a smoke break. I hope I do not start again but you never know.

man, quitting smoking is still one of the big things i need to do to compliment my overall health goal. even tho i smoke the lightest cigs available, thats really not a plus because its the carbon monoxide in them thats probbaly worse than the amounts of tar/nicotine. its purely habit at this point, because i never physically crave a cigarette. its a mental thing regarding to maybe boredom or passing time and even social thing, since taking cig breaks with co-workers outside is just something to do when bored at work. It funny cause the person that most inspired me to start going to the gym who is a co-worker who ive watched go to the gym religiously every day for over a year now on his lunchbreak and is in great shape, yet he's also a smoker.

I cant help but think that the carbon monoxide from the cigs is hampering the amount of oxygen that my blood can carry, which in-turn, would only slow fat-release.

I may sound like a weak person by saying smoking *will* be eliminated from my life real soon, instead of just doing it now if i know its bad, but Im in the process of eliminating something else from my body right now that comes with a pretty high price of physical and mental effects and it just aint quick. all the while ive been maintaining my workout routines, so Im already biting off a little more than I can chew, and feel pretty beatdown somedays. one day ill come clean (in more ways than one) and explain in more detail of the situation when im able to speak about in the *past* tense

Zyban and Wellbutrin are the same drug, different companies though. One was marketed towards treating depression, the other for smoking cessation. I don't remember which was which. When I told my doctor that I didn't notice any change in attitude, he explained it like this... If you aren't depressed to begin with, you wont notice any change. ( I was kind of hoping that I would be skipping through the halls at work smiling like a dork without a care in the world) Well that didn't happen, but I did quit smoking. The compound is Bupropion SR @ 150 MG. It was initially tested in VA hospitals to treat depression, and they realized that a huge percentage of the smokers quit.
