Great form on the incline and flat bench...seeing some strict form for once was truly a treat...form not quite as tight for concentration curls nor for lateral raises

Good showing for someone of any race...not sure this thread even had to read identify his ethnicity

That being said, many of the top BBers of past always believed in heavy weights equalling big mass. This is what Arnold always said also.

There are many insanely strong jap BBers, athletes, powerlifters, etc. I know, i have trained there in the past !!

not to be a jerk or anything but, dennis james doesnt really use insane poundages, compared to most bodybuilders.ive seen his video, nothin really special.ronnie, ruhl, kovacs, jackson, warren those guys use a ton of weight

Anyways the reason I bumped this thread back is 'cause the video is down. Anybody even know the name of the guy?

I read a lot of the training mags in Japan. M&F is basically exactly the same in Japan as in the U.S. Other than that, there were some powerlifting mags, and the content was pretty specific to powerlifting in japan, which is a somewhat popular sport. At least, it has it's own niche in Japan.

Forgot to mention, but in my gym there were a lot of old japanese BB'ing mags from the mid 90's, and the funny thing is that these mags were packed full of ads for basically softcore porn featuring somewhat muscular women. That amused the **** out of me in between sets.

while i agree that ppl putting their lifting stats under their avatar is naive, one thing is for sure: all the ifbb pros that we discuss here are much stronger than we are (cept maybe rare cases) so strength is still a necessary cornerstone of bodybuilding.

Fk the weight used?? Training heavy and challenging yourself every time you train yields results. As someone mentioned, look up gradual progressive overload if you are unaware of it. We all know that big heavy weight and low rep range does not BULK a muscle nor does high reps work 'TONING' muscle fibers. Although since the upper body is primarily fast twitch muscle fibers it's generally more effective to train them in a <12 rep range (heavy). Opposite for legs. It's just ignorant to say Fk the weight - Yes, some people train light, and you can still create a new overload, it's just typically a slower process.

I like you audiowaves but I still stand by my comment. I am much bigger now than I was when I had powerlifter numbers back in the day with miniscule results to show for it. My numbers are crap compared to my younger days yet my physique is much better. I'll let my eyes be the judge. Not stats, excell spreadsheets, or max rep calculators.

So once again I say screw the weight used. It is only a tool. It is not the end all be all. I only worry about properly stimulating the target muscle nowadays. I don't worry about how much total overoload I can throw it. That make work for some. But it has never worked for me.

IMO while you trained for powerlifting, it was a different type of training and goal which built a lot of tendon/connective tissue more than mass or shape. Now there's a GREAT base from all the heavy work to and muscle maturity to shape.

Look at the guys like Sergio, Franco, Lee Labrada and Ronnie who started out before bodybuilding doing heavy weightlifting or powerlifting then switched. They have a thicker, more developed look because of all the stuff before then they changed their sets/reps/weights and got the shape and physique when they trained for hypertrophy and shape and not just power.

I agree. But I don't like using the gains of steroid users as a frame of reference for natural lifters. It's like comparing apples and oranges in my opinion.

Please, i love lifting weights as much as anyone ,but i don't treat weight lifting like a cock measuring contest like a lot of people on here seem to do.
