    Abs aren't directly involved in deads or squats so I fail to see how that exercise could possibly assist those exercises.

    abs are used as a stabilizer in both squats and deads, so yes, better abs can help your squat and deadlift.

    ^^ agreed ^^

    Actually strengthening your core is a good idea all in all as allot of compounds are taxing on your core. Squats, deadlifts, standing MP... hell even pull-ups could benefit from core work.
