There was a long thread about this earlier, if its Olympic and from China, anywhere from 35 to 45lbs without collars. The high quality bars from from top quality outfits like Eleiko, Ivanko, York and several others are 20 kilos or 44lbs rounded off to 45lbs by users. Chinese bars are all over the map on weight due to using various grades of steel and cast metal barrels for holding the plates instead of machined steel barrels.

I got a standard bench press from AMART and the barbell is only 6kg (13.2 pounds) and roughly 5' to 5 & 1/2 foot long.
I had no idea barbells came in different shapes and sizes until now.
I have been loading 70kg (154 pounds) onto this thing, do you reckon this is safe? What do u reckon the loading capacity is on my existing barbell? (I bought it 2 years ago, don't have any of the documentation. Brand is Weiider.Last edited by Ripped_carnt; 09-20-2006 at 04:20 PM.
