does the shoes you wear affect your vertical leap? after lifting in my chucks i went to the basketball court to see how high i can jump. i only made one running attempt and i only grabbed the second row of diamonds on the net from the bottom. im guessing i would do better if i didnt do it after a workout right?

My son is about to start "Small Fry" Basketball - it's a YMCA sports program for 3-4 yr olds, just to introduce them to sports and being coached.
As you can imagine, it turns chaotic pretty quickly, but a few of the kids seem to grab on to at least some of the skills.
My little guy loves to dribble and can actually do a pretty good job, so I'm hoping to keep the momentum going for him.
Now for the questions:
Best skills for kids that age to learn? (my thought was passing and the basics of a jump shot, since most can't get the hang of dribbling)
Drills/practice for whatever skill you answered above?
And, if this is anything like the "Small Fry" soccer, tips for keeping them shooting at the right goal?
I know it's early for these kids, but I really want them (especially my son) to have a good experience and at least a little desire to participate in other sports. No shoes, no shirt, and I still get service.

At that age you should just be watching basketball with him, showing him how to just dribble the ball and how to pass it. (taking him to one would be better and getting him a jersey, yeah expensive but you know little kids, what they get and enjoy when younger translates to later ages)
Don't bother with shooting, save that till he is ~8-9 when he can grasp the concept of shooting. Right now, him like every other kid just chucks the ball up there with both hands lol
As for the 'which basket' ordeal... good luck lol. Some kids get it right now, some don't. Some can learn and remember, some will learn and forget.

We get a "jersey" for each Small Fry sport, so we've got T-Ball and Soccer shirts and we're going to get one for Basketball as well - I've just got my fingers crossed that it isn't red.......again.
Not even sure how high the goals are going to be - maybe they let the little guys dunk.
Dribble and pass fits right in with what I was thinking, just wanted to see if there was any other input - all my Basketball skills came from pickup/playground, so I was thinking I might be missing something, coaching-wise.No shoes, no shirt, and I still get service.

A Mavs jersey would be pretty cool - if they would win a damn game.
We took his sister to a Nuggets game when we lived in CO - she was 2 or so and every time the crowd cheered, she acted like she thought it was for her. She spent most of the game looking up into the stands rather than watching the game.
I haven't been to see the Mavs since they played the Showtime Lakers (feat. Kareem, Magic, James Worthy, AC Greene, Byron Scott, Michael Cooper, and, my fav, Kurt Rambis), so it may be time to go see a game in person.
Any reason to buy BBall/Hightops for a little guy? I don't figure he'll be doing enough breaking and jumping to have to worry about rolled ankles. No shoes, no shirt, and I still get service.

High-School student here. Our basketball practice is from 3:30-5:30. I get home around 6:30 because I have to walk all the way. That being said, would it be better for me to lift weights early in the morning, before school or after practice? (btw my form isn't always good when I workout after practice)

True, they can't do chit this year.
Yeah, lol, little ones at games = lulz
That would have been awesome to see. Jelly as fukc man.
For basketball, yeah, I would. Just because I would never step on a court without my shoes on. But that choice is obviously yours, since it is your money to spend.Biden 2020
