Facemask in the chest is not going to break your neck. Top of your helmet in someones chest is going to break your neck. Its all about keeping your head up and if your facemask is in someones chest then your head is up.

Yeah it's the muscle... it's from looking forward, the muscles in my neck are sore from pushing against the other prop.

I propped once when our prop got a yellow, but how are you pushing your head against the other prop? I feel like you should be driving against the other prop with your shoulder, not your head

depends what position you are playing, what angle you hit the scrum at etc... there are so so many variations in scrumming!! I would say give it a few weeks to settle down!! I have been playing prop for 10 years and i still get it first game back. Its nothign to worry about.

On another note... have been out injuried for a few weeks so i havent been on here much but now back all training starting to look around the forum again!! (how ive missed it) But i do have to say one thing.... F**K there are so many naive stupid americans on here.... who starts a bloody thread on what supplements will help me run faster.... LOL are they jsut stupid or something!! Prime example " what will make me run fast in a training session and what will help me last two hours or training and not cramping up2 Are they just stupid or something!! Do they not read anythign?! Surely they have read the threads about basic training and dieting... they just all seem to think supps will do everything!!
I have decided to concentrate on my diet over the last few months.. i have pilled on muscle mass and lost body fat... i jsut started to eat properly!! I take two supplements which is BCAA and HMB!! thats it... im training twice a day and i still feel recovered for the next day to do it all again!! Rant over\

how is everyones season or pre season training going?!

Iv never seen the point in battling with silly little things at loose head

when playing loosehead the idea is to attack, If you're playing at tighthead and the loosehead is slipping his binding, butting you, screwing your neck around etc but the scrum isnt going back, you're doing your job

but by attacking this doesnt necessarily mean driving their pack backwards

if their scrum is going forward drag it round

the think I used to do at loose, if I was playing a really big tight head was setting the scrum down very low, and engaging really hard, getting underneath their prop, then you body angles are perfect to drive up and potentially pop him out the scrum. If I was playing against a smaller lad Id just get a nice tight bind and try edging the scrum forward nice and steady. You've always got to remember that you're trying to get the best ball for the 8/9-its not all about your battle

another thing to look for at loose is the big step to wheel your scrum round so your 8 and/or 9 can go on one side

Its nothing that amazing, but i was happy with it, big surprise when you don't deadlift in months (let alone max out) and hit a big PR. Im gonna assume it was my squat, which increased about 25 kg's in that time, that drove it up.

ok mate, im not bagging your coaches style, but the aim of the scrum is to push forward. the whole point of looking up is to direct your power forward, and decreases the chance of it going down.

often, when you see scrums going down, it may just be because one pack is sooo much lower than the other. it doesnt mean theyre doing anything wrong at all, but all the collapsing can start to ache.

when you play at loosehead, either bind short, and have your elbow in a right angle, with the arm paralel to the floor. when you scrum againt poor opposition, bind further back, because they wont pull you down. if you can, grab their shorts which will restrict leg movement of the opposing TH and make it an easy push, relieving your neck from pressure. just dont get caught doing this, or you will get penalised.

thats good work man, and i agree, the tighthead doesnt need to push his scrum forward too much, but stop the opposition pushing him back.

i posted ways looseheads can bind to enhance scrumming ability. it works exceptionally well. furthermore if you have a tall prop, set up a lot closer before the crouch. he will have less time to extend his body, so his engage will have less power and you will be able to drive him back further. opposite if they are shorter. also, speak to your hooker. get him to spend his scrum time boring his head into the side of the TH's head or his ear. thatll make him concentrate on the hooker, and lose his focus.

scrumming is such a mental game, especially in the front row. saying things to them to put them off, like whispering how weak they are, or before packing down saying "lol boys, lets take it easy on them this time" then smash em again. when the scrum loses faith in just one prop, the scrum dies. if you want to start a bit of biff, but not follow it up with actual punches that works well to. they want to punch you, and forget how to scrum. whenever they do anything wrong, tell the ref, they usually have lots of patience when the front row talk to them. the more you make the opposite props look weak or inferior, the more demoralised the rest of the scrum becomes, and dont work as cohesively.

Size wise, you're probably big enough. That said, if you're 225, can't drive a scrum and can't break a tackle or two, it's not going to matter much. I'd be more worried about strength than size.

I don't see why not. Work on your stamina and speed/explosiveness. What are your current lifting stats?
    Friendship b/w women:
A woman doesn't come home one night. The next day she tells her husband she slept over at a girlfriend's place. Her husband calls 10 of her best friends. None know anything about it.

    Friendship b/w men:
A man doesn't come home one night. The next day he tells his wife he slept over at a friend's place. His wife calls 10 of the husband's best friends. 8 of them confirm he slept over, the other 2 claim he's still there.

Our scrum got pushed around like it was on wheels

But that's understandable when you give away over a stone per man, ****ing idiot selectors picking small frontrow

The size thing was more of a statement about the whole tour that just the Scotland test

Scotland did well to grind out 41 points on a narrow field in extremely poor conditions

It just pisses me off to see the team held to zero points, I have played with 70% of the squad and I know they are better than that!!!!

The players are based on the west coast, that doesn't mean they have always lived there, many of them only move out there after they have been drafted into the NSMT

Some of the European pros played their rugby in Ontario before they went overseas, etc

If you do not believe this then fine, that is your choice
