    Thumbs up

He must have had the utmost degree of confidence in his ability to successfully execute the lift, because his spotter was inadequate to even spot me benching 135 lbs.

It is properly performed while lying on one's back with one's shoulder blades pinched together on a specially designed bench with a weighted barbell suspended on a rack over one's chest. Not pinching one's shoulder blades together causes the anterior deltoids (frontal shoulders) to take over. Form a slight arch in one's lower back for stability, but don't let one's buttocks lift off the bench. While keeping one's feet planted on the ground, one then takes the barbell, inhale, lift it off the rack, and lower it to one's chest at about the middle of one's sternum. After a pause of < 0-5 seconds, the weight is then raised back up to the starting position, exhaling. The elbow should not fully extend (lock) or hyperextend, as this is both stressful on the joint and allows the muscles to rest when they should remain engaged. This exercise should always be performed with a spotter to catch the bar in case it is dropped on the chest.
    from wikipedia

He didn't perform it right according to this definition and tank didn't either don't come in here with your powerlifting bull****.
    The RIGHT way? stfu
The right way is controlled with NO ARCHING, NO SUITS, NO ASS OFF THE BENCH...that guy did all three.
Tanks only problem is that he bounced it off his chest.
Seriously don't come in here telling people what the RIGHT way is when powerlifters do it the 'WRONG' way.
The original bench press was performed as the definition says above.

oh yeah btw I respect both of these men since even with doing it the 'wrong' way I can't imagine benching what they do.

There is a powerlifter at our gym that benched 738 for a double a few weeks ago. 600lbs is a lot of weight but in the grand scheme of things it is really not that great anymore.

What the **** are you talking about? I've been bodybuilding for quite a few years and am now just getting into powerlifting. Lifting weights is not a foreign concept to me, as it apparently is to you, since you need to find a textbook definition for it.

Powerlifting and Bodybuilding have entirely different principles as far as form and repetition go. Bodybuilding's intent is to work a specific muscle with constant tension throughout the repetitions (Ronnie's way of lifting). Powerlifting's intent is for one lift, full range of motion...all the way down, all the way up to lock out. Can you lift it, or not? That's powerlifting, which is what Tank was doing there. Tank's ass came off the bench. He arched his back, and it appears he's wearing a shirt, too. Tank Abbot's benchpress would not have counted as a legal lift in an official competition. Mr. Skullcrusher's would, and did. That pretty much ends your argument right there.

I can't lift 600 lbs, either, and I'm pretty impressed by both lifts. What actually REALLY impresses me about Tank's lift, bounce or no bounce, is his narrow grip. THAT takes strength. I'll admit, as well, that I'm not really fond of the suits and shirts and stuff, either. Though my numbers aren't close to 600 lbs, all my lifting for now is done completely raw...no gloves, no straps, no belt, no wraps, shirts or suits. That's the way I prefer to lift. But, when you get to the higher weights like that, that kind of stuff can actually make it safer.

He didn't perform it right according to this definition and tank didn't either don't come in here with your powerlifting bull****.
I don't know what your problem is, dude. Everyone's in the gym for the same reason. Why would you try and say anything different? I'm sorry, but "wikipedia" isn't exactly the recommended source for all the pro's weightlifting information. I don't know whether to be upset or whether I should laugh that you actually went through the trouble to search that out and post it.

I thought his form was ok -- maybe not "textbook" but I've certainly seen much, much worse.

At any rate, 600 pounds is a lot more than I can do, I know that much. Why can't we just say "Hey, that guy is pretty strong" and move on?

Why would i be justifying my inability to bench press 600lbs with really really bad form on an internet forum like people give a ****.....

    1. He's not a bodybuilder or a powerlifter. Calling him a fat c*nt is f*cking stupid. You don't even know the man, and you want to start off judging him?

    2. I don't care how old you are or how long you've been training. Until you hit a 600lb bench, don't criticise his efforts like that.

    3. You don't have to be obsessed with the weights you push, but as you get stronger a natural reaction is to push more weight.

    4. You go, girlfriend!

    5. I can't bench 600lb, but I'm not hanging **** on someone who can.

Why would you claim to be a wealth of knowledge when clearly you're not?

    I kno i dont kno him, but i kno hes fat....so i wasnt wrong was i ....

I was only critising tanks form for fukks sake, put your dummy back in your mouth, his form was fukkin ****, plain and simple, you cannot say it wasnt......

The other guy, the powerlifter, was gold, he did it really well IMO....and props to him for doing it.

I dont care about who pushes what weight where, makes no difference to me, doing it in a real powerlifting meet means something, doing it in a locker room and almost killing yourself doing it doesnt impress me.

If ive offended you which i obviously have, i dont give a ****........get the fukk over it, this is an internet forum mate.

Also, the guy that negged me for callin all powerlifters fat ****s read it again, i called tank fat, not the powerlifter.....

    Anyway...

I remember back in the day when UFC was new and Tank was just beating the crap out of people. He was a fantastic guy to watch brawl. Then, of course, the sport passed him by.

It's a shame, really. I wish they had some kind of UFC type dealie where you could only fight if you had no experience whatsoever in martial arts, particularly in submission fighting. Just guys like Tank swinging for the fences.

And for the record, a 600lb bench is just sick no matter how you slice it.

    Just sayin'...

I couldn't help but notice that a lot of people write "NO HOMO" at the end of their posts. I'm confused.... does that mean they are saying they're willing to perform gay acts for Nitric Oxide or are they saying that their heterosexuality is so tenuous that they must insert a qualifier whenever they pay another man a compliment?
