    Activate Xtreme.. Side Effects?

I've been using AX for about a week and a half. I do realize my strength has gone up a bit but I also realize that I am having OCD-like symptoms. I keep having unwanted thoughts and it keeps recurring in my head. Sometimes I can't sleep because of this. Does anyone else have the same side effects?

Note: I never had any psychotic problems in the past

Very weird. I haven't heard of anything like this from AX, and my guess is that it is coincidence.

Have you ever used rhodiola rosea before?

Nope I have never used that before.

I read that icarin can work on the brain by inhibiting AChE (the enzyme that breaks down ACh) from doing its work. ACh is a neurotransmitter that is usually responsible for excitatory effects and I'm guessing it the reason why my brain keeps sending signals to remind me of these unwanted thoughts. This is just my theory.

In addition, I read that rhodiola rosea is a powerful psycho-stimulant. I'm not sure if this fact could have any effects on the OCD symptoms that I am experiencing.

"Doses above 800mg per day in some cases caused irritability, insomnia and unpleasant sensations."
How much rosavin are in each serving? I take 3-4 pills a day.

Anyways, I don't know what exactly in the AX's ingredient is causing this but I will stop for now.

This is a first. You arent consuming that much Rhodiola per day so it isnt that unless you happened to be extremely sensitive to it. As far as Icariin inhibiting AChE, Ive seen companies mention it in product write ups but I cant find any studies to support the claims. A search at pubmed reveals nothing. There arent even any studies on Icariin where they even looked at the levels of AChE. Of course I could be missing them but until I see an actual stduy it would be hard for me to believe that might be the reason.

First what do you weigh, how long have you been using ACTX, how many caps per day are you using and ho wis that dose broken up during the day? Are there any other supplements or medication you are taking with or around the ACTX dosing? Have you tried reducing the ACTX dose to see if you still get the same effect?

Get me that info and in the meantime Ill see if I can find anything else. When you say the same thoughts over and over what are the thoughts? Meaning that you find yourself thinking about sex more or that you need to wash your hands a hundred times a day?

When searching pubmed this is all I find with Icariin and inhibit in the search criteria. Icariin + AChE gets nothing. Icariin + choline gets nothing.

Effects of icariin on phosphodiesterase-5 activity in vitro and cyclic guanosine monophosphate level in cavernous smooth muscle cells.Ning H, Xin ZC, Lin G, Banie L, Lue TF, Lin CS.
Knuppe Molecular Urology Laboratory, Department of Urology, University of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine, San Francisco, California 94115, USA.

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the effect of icariin on the cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP)-hydrolytic activity of phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) isoforms and the cGMP levels in cavernous smooth muscle cells treated with sodium nitroprusside (SNP). METHODS: PDE5 isoforms (PDE5A1, A2, and A3) were isolated from sf9 insect cells infected with baculoviruses carrying PDE5 isoform cDNA. Icariin was isolated from Epimedii herba. Varying amounts (10(-6) to 10(-11) M) of icariin or zaprinast were added to reaction mixtures containing PDE5 isoforms and cGMP. The inhibitory effects of icariin and zaprinast were analyzed by GraphPad Software and are expressed as concentration that inhibits 50% (IC50) values. Cavernous smooth muscle cells were isolated from 3-month-old rats, treated with icariin (100 and 200 microM) or zaprinast (200 microM) for 15 minutes, and then with 10 microM SNP for 30, 60, 120, 240, and 360 minutes. The cells were then analyzed for the cGMP concentration using an enzyme immunoassay system. RESULTS: Icariin inhibited PDE5A1, A2, and A3 with an IC50 value of 1.0, 0.75, and 1.1 microM, respectively. The corresponding IC50 values for zaprinast were 0.33, 0.23, and 0.32 microM. Icariin consistently outperformed the control (SNP-only treatment) in maintaining greater cGMP levels, particularly at the greater concentration of 200 microM. In contrast, zaprinast at 200 microM did better than the control only at 60 and 360 minutes. CONCLUSIONS: Icariin was inhibitory to all three PDE5 isoforms with similar IC50 values, which were approximately three times greater than those for zaprinast. Icariin was able to enhance cGMP levels in SNP-treated cavernous smooth muscle cells.

I also experienced almost immediate, seriously unpleasant hallucinations at night time on increasing from one cap to two per day. It probably boils down to individual susceptibility to velvet bean extract, nettle extract, and some of the other herbs. All CAN trigger this type of effect... approach with caution. It was actually a frightening experience..
