I overtrained my chest with 170 lbs bench press.3 sets of 4-5 reps.Sore for 3 days!

Is that normal.I dont thinks so.
All i did was 3 sets of 4-5 with 170 lbs bench press.
I warmed up with light medium weight, but than i really pushed hard and i overtrained.
I worked chest on Wednesday 7.pm and it is still sore on Saturday 2 pm.
That is a bit too much sore
I am taking Xtend even on off days but it didnt help much woth Doms.

ive been sore for that long before. its pretty normal. maybe you just pushed alot harder than used to and your body wasnt used to that extra force and that made you sore. i dont think you over trained. i dont think you can over train in one day anyway. i think it has to be over a longer period of time.

i wouldnt say overtrained, maybe just didnt hit the macros for the day, or it could be the extra weight.

    no biggie.

I can guarantee you didn't overtrain by doing a few sets of benchpress.

    Especially at age 21.

People need to realize that overtraining is caused when you overwork your CNS, NOT your muscles. Your muscles are probably fatigued and your feeling DOMS which is not a symptom of overtraining.

I want to see a concrete scientific study of what overtraining is. At what point does it occur?

There's a difference between muscle soreness and overtraining.

I wouldn't consider that overtraining. ever think about 5x5 that goes for bench as well. I do 5x5 on incline decline and flat plus inclin barbell press and fat barbell press

I do not know how many times I have said this before:

    1. You can not over train in one workout. Overtraining happens over a long period of time by not allowing proper rest time, lack of sleep and nutrition.

    2. There is really no such thing as over training, only under recovery

You won't find a scientific study of overtraining, because it's not a scientific concept. It's just a word that means, roughly, "The point at which you have taxed your body's recovery ability so much that it negatively impacts your normal bodily functions." If you have pneumonia, you can "overtrain" by walking around the block. It's a real phenomenon, but it's not a medical term; it's just a term that athletes came up with. I asked my doctor about overtraining two weeks ago, and he had no idea what I was talking about.
