    Muscle Stimulation

I have been reading some threads on this site and people mention that the more stimulation your muscles get the more they grow. I am not exactly sure if this is true, for example, the ab belt stimulates your abdominal muscles and it was proved to do nothing for growth.

Also, if this is true than if you saw the movie "Jackass" then you will see this muscle stimulator machine in one of the scenes. If stimulation is all you need then that would be the best thing possible for growing, just put it on your desired muscle and shock away, and eat for gains. See you guys will probably second guess that thought, which is why I ask if muscle stimulation is really a reason for muscle growth.

You have to show a muscle that it can;t do something in order for it to grow. The EMS machine that you're talking about just contracts the muscles. There is no range of motion or resistence, that's why it doesn't work. Basically, there are many forms of stimulation.
And as far as more stimulation is better, no. That would be over-training.

So then why does everyone say muscle fiber stimulation = good?

You have to stimulate the muscle to get it to grow, but there are a bunch of ways and definitions of stimulating a muscle fiber.

Yeah, but that machine would stimulate it the most right?

muscle grows in response to overload stimulation...not contractile stimulation...at least not to any degree. If contractile stimulation increased muscle synthesis then I'd be about 2 X as big b/c i flex all the time.
    Peace

I used to be in medical sales and marketed EMS units...not the crap you see on TV and in the mags. There were $2000 units. They work real well for what they are intended...prevention of atrophy after injury or surgery. They WON"T build muscle to any degree worth the discomfort you would have to endure to attain the miniscule growth. Save your money....buy some dumbells.
