Last I checked, Brady still has more rings than either Manning. Right?
And why would the Patriots go downhill next year? Unless they have a horribly off season and lose a bunch of players, I don't see them going downhill. Of course, they won't have as good of a year as they did this year, but I wouldn't call that going downhill...

I wouldn't say that, but their window is definitely limited, as with any team in the NFL. They'll still have a high 1st round pick, so they can definitely grab an impact player, but yeah, their linebacking group is old, they might lose some key free agents, and they have to resign Moss. They won't have as much room under the cap as they did last year either. They'll have to make sacrifices, and while they will still definitely be a contender for a long time, they won't be as dominant as they were this year.
On top of that, just like when the Rams were tearing up the league, you'll see teams respond directly to handle the Patriots, which means that there will be a HUGE demand for talented defensive linemen that can create pressure effectively. Teams like the Ravens and Eagles drew up the blueprint on how to beat the Patriots, and the Giants perfected it, so you will never seen Brady throw for 50 TD's or even close again.Russell Wilson, the first QB in NFL history to throw a game-winning interception.
"So you got fired again eh?" "Yeah, they always freak out when you leave the scene of an accident."
Spiders are like offensive linemen, the best ones do their job and you never notice them.
An obvious example of New Math.

Here is a list of their UFA- they might lose a few good players.
Troy Brown, WR
Tedy Bruschi, LB
Jabar Gaffney, WR
Randall Gay, CB
Larry Izzo, LB
Randy Moss, WR
Mel Mitchell, S
Lonie Paxton, LS
Asante Samuel, CB
Junior Seau, LB
Chad Scott, CB
Eugene Wilson, S
They have the No. 7 overall pick, but that will cost them a lot of money for a rookie.

Pats are done.
Every Pats fan will admit that this was their oldest team, they are almost basically in a rebuilding stage after free agency takes over. This is where the business portion takes over. You think someone like welker is gonna play for pennies? Assante staying for chump change? Randy staying a good boy for another year? Old linebacking crew that is half past retired.
The Rams had almost everyone returning the next year and did nothing. You have to hold individual years almost mutually exclusive because the NFL is the most up and down league in pro sports.

Lets see how they are going to replace Asente Samual... No way are they going to pay him what he's worth, and they can't put the franchise tag on him again. Moss is going to want a ton of money, if they put a franchise tag on him he will turn into the Moss of old in a heartbeat.
Several of their older (back bone) players will be either retiring, or one year older, and slower. Most players whos contracts are up for renewal who have rings already will be going for the money now.
When a team loses the superbowl they historicly don't do well the next year..
If any of these rumors of past spying come to be true Belechek might not be coaching anymore. It is rumored that what has come to light already is just the tip of the iceberg.

I don't know, the other player that could be reitirng is Seau, and the only old part of the team are teh linebackers. I think they should try to hold onto Moss and Welker but let Stallworth go (Gaffney is good enough, Stallworth will want too much money) Otherwise their line is still young, maybe just pickup a couple defensive players in the draft and they'll be fine.

Yeah, but didn't the Patriots come back and win a Super Bowl the next year after just missing the playoffs the year before?
With their cake walk schedule next season and level of consistency over the last few years, I could still see them in the playoffs.
They need to update their aging linebackers though.

If they don't end up losing their 1st rounder, they can get a pretty damn good linebacker or corner with the 7th/8th pick...........personally I think that they need to find a new tackle, because Light was just plain getting abused last night.
