    Big Tires/Weight?

How much do those big tire weigh? Has anyone tried flipping them around? Good workout? Thinking about incorporating it for some football players. Thanks for responses.

If they are high school players then go with tires ranging from 400-700 lbs.
A roughly 700 lb. Michelin tire will have a 23.5 R 25 written on the side. This number is the size and the R means it has a steel radial in the middle which will make it heavier; they are usually around 5 ft. tall by 22" wide. Flip them yourself for a good estimate or take a couple of your players with you to pick some out. Tires that look the same size can vary widely in how much they weigh.
Tire flipping is one of the best exercises you can give to football players period. It really teaches functional strength and endurance.

Yeah, They range from 400-1000+ From what I have observed online it is pretty difficult to measure the tires weight though.. I've seen some people claim an 800lbs tire but from what i hear it seems more like a 1000lbs tire

81Ort has probably flipped his fair share of tires, and i would respect his opinions
Ive flipped a 700lber(multiple reps) and a 1200lber (one rep). It's a hell of a conditioning workout. I think football players would love truck pulls with a harness as well while you're at it. Or even just truck pushes (maybe ebrake for harder pushes)

Tire Flip is 1 of the BEST overall condtioning exercises you can do. Especially for reps. Pushing a car then dragging the tire is wicked too.

Call around to the tire shops and depots that deal with ORT (OFF ROAD TIRES) or LOADER TIRES. They are usually defects from construction vehicles so they need to pay to dispose of them. So they should give it away to you for free actually since you're saving them.

They have charts with the weights and stats for the wheels there.
The way is to push into it like a car then up and walk it over by stepping forward. Sumo stance is good for this. BUT DON'T try to just deadlift it.
Lever it up and keep pushing.
Very heavy on the hips, legs at the start, mid way is a lot of back and biceps and abs, the finish is chest, shoulders, triceps knocking it over.

I got some tires a little over a month ago, and the tire shop gave them to me for free.

We've got 5 ranging from two that are fairly easy to flip, 1 thats pretty difficult, and 2 that are extremely heavy.

It is an awsome workout that involves everything.

Yea, most tires are free when you go and find an old one. Because they have to pay to dispoce of them.

I'm in high school, play rugby, and I flip a tire once a week as part of my workout. The one I have is a Goodyear 20.5R25 so I've heard its around 500lbs. but I am not 100% sure. It's definately a good idea to incorporate some strongman type training into athletic training.

Thanks everyone. I will look further into it and make sure I get a tire that weighs a reasonable amount of weight.

Like was said flip the tire your self or try and get some players to try it out also.

For football I would want a selection of sizes as you will have a variety of different sized players with different strength levels

I agree. You can also do some of the lighter ones for reps/time for GPP, and the heavier ones would be more in the strength training range.
