Hey guys! I'm Christian and I wanted to ask you guys a question. How do you all grow in faith? Every time I think something my not turn out they way I would like, God has other plans which turnout for the better! I know I need to grow in faith and I read biblical scriptures and pray. But is there anything else I could do to grow in faith as a believer? Thanks!

Absolutely. I enjoy lifting, but I do so with the understanding that it is a worldly pursuit and has very little to do with glorifying God. It CAN be done for the glory of God, but realistically it is done more so for the glory of one's own body, even for Christians. Glorifying God has more to do with edifying/helping others, lifting is mostly done to help oneself, to be more highly regarded by others, to gain respect, and even to inspire fear.
There's always someone stronger, faster, healthier. Pride comes before a fall. Stay humble.

Hello fellow Christian bodybuilders!
A little testimony here.
Before I start a workout, I always pray to God.
Before I start a heavy set, I will ask God for strength.
For example, I once had trouble breaking a squat plateau. Before I attempted it, I said to God, "God, give me strength"
When I struggle to get up after hitting parallel, I would grunt "God, give me strength!!!" and I managed to break the plateau.
Another example was today, when I did the push press.
This is the first time I did push presses and while befote attempting a PR, I prayed to God and dedicated the lift to him. I was tired since I deadlifts heavy before this but after the prayer, I suddenly felt energized and completed the set successfully with good form.
Dedicate anything you do to God, as an act of worship, and God will give you the strength.
God bless you all in bodybuilding, and your lives.

Yes indeed. When I begin I make the sign of the cross ( Catholic Girl here) and say God give me strength lets do this. When I finish I raise my hands up in praise and say "Thank You God for being so kind and generous " You see there was a time I could not even tie my shoes due to illness . God is good !!!!!

I'm so glad there is a thread about this. I was wondering if there was one if not i was going to start one. I'm not a competitive bodybuilder but rather a former college football player that still loves working out and working on my body. There are so few christians in the gym but its awesome to see so many in the forums! To God be the glory!
When it comes to lifting and god the 2 verses i read and think about are Col. 3:23-24 and Proverbs 27:17. If anyone has any other favorite verses i should look at message them to me or post them here, i'm always down for growing in my faith.

Good thread. We lift for many reasons but the fact that God is center is the reason most of us will face ridicule. The fact that God doesn't need us, but we realize that we need him is viewed as a crutch to some. To others the thought of being responsible for their own thoughts and actions is too much weight to bare. The Truth is that God doesn't care about your lifting gains if your heart is wrong. Yes we are to take care of the temple, but outward appearances can be deceiving. When you pray, make sure you listen, not just talk. God has a plan for you. So lift strong and lift heavy my brothers and sisters in Christ. The cross we bare is heavier than most can imagine. God bless.

Hello fellow Christians, another testimony today.
I have this plateau on the Overhead Press (20kg/44lbs) which I couldn't break for the past 5 months (couldn't break as in be able to do 3 sets x 5 reps)
The best try I remember doing was 2 reps a few months ago, and I REALLY struggled to get those 2 reps in. Shows how skinny my arms are.
So, today, when I woke up from my afternoon nap, I felt very sluggish and considered skipping my workout, since I had chores to do too. But in between chores, when I walked past my weight room, I decided to do a few reps of the OPress. Better than nothing I guess.
Before attempting the set, I prayed to God, dedicated the lift to him, and asked him for strength. And guess what? I managed to get my 5 reps! After that, I tried again and only managed 3 reps, then 5 reps successfully again, then 3 reps, and on my last attempt, got 4 reps.
Dispite not being able to complete 3 sets of 5 reps, I'd like to thank God for being with me.
Amen.

Some fast songs which can help motivate you/put you in the mood is white metal. Black metal is satanic, white metal is more Christian-based.
Theocracy,Narnia and Golden Resurrection are the best I know of.
Theocracy - Wages of Sin, 30 pieces of silver
Narnia - Armageddon
Golden Resurrection - The Final Day
Christian music isn't all about quiet, slow or slightly rock-ish or pop-ish songs. If you sincerely worship God, even metal is good. As long as you mean it.
I always wanted to listen to Christian music, but my love for metal went against it, so I searched for Christian power metal on Google one day and found a gold mine.
EDIT
One more thing. For the rock lovers out there, Skillet is the band for you. They are a Christian band.
Monster, Awake and Alive and Hero are my personal favorites.
