Barley Malt Extract = Insulin Spike

i have heard that barley malt extract spikes the insulin just as good as maltodextrin. You guys think its a good alternative?

"So barley malt extract or maltodextrin is a better carb choice and can be utilized in lower levels than 75 GMs per dose." - Author Rea

its mostly made up of maltose, with some glucose, sucrose and fructose.
maltose has a GI of 105.
not sure about how it would taste,or how cost effective it is.
