I'm new to bodybuilding, but I've been straight edge for 7 years now. Earth Crisis' Firestorm/Forged in the Flames is always blasting in my truck on the way to the gym. Best way for me to get motivated!

no ****in way bro, your definetely ond rugs, roids atleast judging by that display pic.
but if you arent, then good on ya! i too refrain from drugs, alcohol and even smoking.
my personal philosophy is that these only cause liabilities to a person's personality. why go into a state where you depend on something? it's only going to hinder your progress in life.
and ofter, stop it.....

After reading this thread I have been inspired to stop drinking. I have a beverage once a week among friends, but I can easily see myself using liquor as a scap goat for my problems. Life is hard but why make it harder. Living clean is what I admire about natural bodybuilders. Now I too want to benefit from the straight edge lifestyle.

it's so funny
It's so funny to meet people on here that are just like me...because bber's (especially straightedge natty bber's) are such a small tight niche group.
I enjoy being "different" though from everyone else. I am in love with the lifestyle of eating healthy and working out...and often times I will enjoy a weekend with going to the gym at night then coming home, eating, and just watchin a movie and relaxing. (maybe call up a girl or 2 haha )
Also, it is funny whenever I go somewhere or meet someone...FITNESS, HEALTH, EATING/DIET ALLLLLWAYS comes up in topic in some form. People NOTICE. The attention is great...and I don't let negativity bother me like I used to. It's either you accept me for me, or you don't. I have my family, a few TRUE friends, and that's it. I don't NEED anyone. I know who I am, and that's it.
In relation to getting attention, I think a lot of the negativity from being very fit and stuff is related to modern-day america just being plain lazy. For example, if a guy sees a really built, fit guy walk through the bar he gets jealous and starts making comments. I've learned to be bigger than that in both maturity and everything over the years though. It may get on my nerves for a minute, but I just think to myself "thanks for giving me MORE motivation to work harder"
I like to prove people wrong, but overall, I do it for myself and my goals, not for anyone else.
Just thought I'd give my 2 cents.

hey,
i have never smoked all my life.most of my family did & i hated it.
i have never felt the need to take drugs either.i am a natural trainer.
i have been sober for the last 4 years
i dont drink tea or coffee as i am alergic to caffiene.i drink barley cup.
the only vice i have is food.
i am crrently 245 lbs & need to lose about 80 lbs in weight but just carn't seem to shift it no matter what i do.i carn't take any fat stripers as they contain caffiene.
i live a clean life & happy to do so (even though people think i am boring because i wont get out of my head )

i'm brand new to this forum and i'm lookin forward to actively being on here. this thread caught my eye immediately. i never thought i'd find so many who go straight edge, it's incredible!
I seriously do not know anybody personally who is straight edge. I am the closest thing I know to someone who is straight edge. I didn't try drugs until after high school, and when I did, it was completely stupid and that one time will be the ONLY time. I never got big into drinking despite being surrounded by friends and family who do it all the time. i haven't had a drink since April of this year.
not sure if any of you on here watches WWE(yes i know pro wrestling is fake), but there's a guy named CM Punk who is Straight Edge, not just gimmick, but also lives it. About a year or two ago I started getting in the mindset that drinking wouldn't be so bad. But when I saw CM Punk make it big time being straight edge, it gave me new hope and inspiration. I never feel the need to smoke. Rarely do I feel the need to drink. One of my biggest pet peeves is when I hear someone talk about how they need alcohol to make their weekend better, or how their weekend sucked until they got trashed. It really irritates me. I will hardly hang out with my friends on weekend nights because I know they'll end up somewhere smoking and drinking, and it's just not something I want to be part of.
I have the upmost respect for those who pledge the Straight Edge lifestyle(that X on the neck is sweet as hell). I am hesitant to do so myself, as I feel like i'd be an army of one where I live lol.
and here's a pic of CM Punk.
he's got "straightedge" tat across his stomach. also, on his fingers he's got tats that read "DRUG FREE" when he puts his hands together.

i'm diggin the straight edge approach. i am with you 100% about drugs and drinking being negative. the kids at Rutgers think i'm insane when i'm eating my oats, whey, and pb instead of going out late and partying. it's a mentality that some don't get, and the few that do will prosper for a long time. keep it up man, you'll go far!

I didn't know about this thread until recently. I have just done a bit of reading on what it means to be "Straight Edge" and I like what I see. I think i'm gonna give it a real hard crack and see how I feel.
Respect to you guys.I only eat food in bar form. When you concentrate food, you unleash its awesome power, I'm told. That's why I'm compressing 5 pounds of spaghetti into one handy mouth-sized bar...

1st post! I am a recovering alcoholic/addict. I have been sober for 5 1/2 months. when i used to be active in my addiction i tried steroids, to change my appearance and the way i felt about myself. even then, they didnt do jack ****, because all the chemicals i was putting in me body, its a miracle my kidneys didnt shut down. Since getting clean, thanks to bill w., i have began working out again, this time juice free, and obviously void of ANY drugs or alchohol (i dont even take more advil than the bottle says) I am bigger and stronger, not to mention overall healthier, than i was on even my biggest strongest day juicing. I love being sober, i can finally think and live life. I am wondering if there are any other friends of Bill W. in here? since this is a "sober/drug free" type thread, speak up! anyway, just wanted to say that being completely chemical free, allows my body to perform at its peak. It is truely a blessing to be sober and be able to have a body that functuions! congrats to all the people who have decided to go this route, wether you never did them, just quit using for a while, or have gone a more annonymous route, congrats! and happy lifting!

Well done my friend and welcome to the forums.
Admittedly im not "Straight Edge" yet but I am very interested in giving it a fair go and seeing how it works out for me. Will be a challenge, no doubt, as all my friends drink heavily and take drugs on the odd occasion but it's my life and my body and I get to choose what I put (or don't put) into it.
Again, well done on being clean and sober.I only eat food in bar form. When you concentrate food, you unleash its awesome power, I'm told. That's why I'm compressing 5 pounds of spaghetti into one handy mouth-sized bar...

Major props!
I think its awesome that you are willing to take that stance when so many other bbers will put anything in their body. I'm with you on no drugs or alcohol ect its not worth destroying your life/body! I never have had any and never will.
Question:
I have never taken creatine because I had heard that it was bad for you and read several articles saying it was, additionally when I was certified as a CFT our lecturer was really down on creatine and said it would really hurt you in the long run. I read the articles in favor of creatine but I didn't know what to believe so I decided to play it on the safe side. You seem to really know your stuff so if you have a chance I'd like your opinion.
Why do you believe creatine is safe and do you know of any links with scholarly articles on the subjectEat clean and train hard because nothing tastes as good as being fit feels!

I used to be a druggie in high school. I quit doing drugs and busted ass to graduated then went to college and graduated that. Had a little point in college where I did smoke for like a week then got back out of it. Have been clean since. Don't plan on ever going back. Don't smoke cigs. I take creatine after workouts but I try my best to stay away from sodas. I try to mainly just drink a lot of water. I just got into Body Building a few weeks ago so I am going to be sticking to this path I'm currently on. I'm not straight edge though.

Ive been clean from a heavy meth addiction for over 4 years now, along with this I quit cigarettes, pot, alcohol ect... basically every recreational and illicit drug, and yes sobriety definitely pays off and outweighs drug use, the key is to survive long enough w/o relapsing to realize it for yourself...
one thing I've realized tho and would like to add is that abstaining from drugs does not necessarily mean that you are "healthy", alot of "clean" people are starving on a cellular level in regards to water, mineral and vitamin intake, and due to this the quality of life suffers..
for about the last year now I have stepped it up further and quit all diuretics as well, along with this I refrain almost completely from all refined foods, and focus on whole foods, I eat my fruits and vegetables uncooked at least 80% of the time and I only drink clean h2o and organic milk, nutrient dense foods is the key here, and just like quiting the drugs, the benefits from these changes have enhanced life more then I ever would have imagined, natural whole unadulterated foods is truly the foundation in which full potential can be reached in every aspect of living...Last edited by HabitualEcstasy; 01-01-2009 at 10:13 PM.

In 2008 I had an addiction to a few recreational, and ilicit drugs. Not to mention all the drinking and smoking. But towards the end of the year, I realized the harm I was doing to myself. So I quit the drugs, I stopped smoking, and I even quit drinking. Since then, I have been straight edge. I plan to stay that way for the rest of my life. Congrats to all you sXe people out there! I know it is a difficult lifestyle, but it is well worth it!

Straight Edge
Being Straight Edge is the ****. I think we should have a massive straight edge get together somewhere in the middle of the united states. Not really, but that would be pretty sweet.
