Huge market for your guys in Australia

As you know Australian supplements is hugely HUGELY overpriced. Why don't you set up a store down here and do an Australia online store, where you do not rip people off? Their is definately an open space in the market down here.

    EXPaND !!

I'd have to agree with you there Oz..
Our supplement market is dominated by GNC. The smaller independant stores share the remainder of the market and the lack of competition shows in the pricing. Not only is the pricing a disapointment, but so too is the range of supplements available to us Aussies.. at a guess, I'd say most stores here would not even stock 1/10th of what is on BB.com

I've often thought about opening up my own supplement shop here, however my limited industry knowledge is what has stopped me. Otherwise it would almost be a license to print money.

I would have to disagree. Supplements are cheap enough here if u know where to buy them. Plus there is a big range available....again, if you know where to buy them.

I don't find the BB.com online store saves me money. Although I can buy the supps cheap enough on BB.com, even the very cheapest international postage option kills me. A $40 tub of protein turns into a $70 tub. Not cost effective at all.

An Aussie bb.com store would rock so much. Supps are rediculously priced over here.

And where are these cheap supplements in Australia I'm hearing about?

that would be an issue if bodybuilding.com was a small business, but they are not

Agreed. Bodybuilding.com if it was to expand to Australia would totally dominate the market down here within a week no doubt.

The market is too small for good competition.

Well, for example, I can walk into Ada Street Supplements and buy 5lbs Optimum Whey for $79.95.

Let's do some math. BB.com has 5lbs OW for $28.89. The CHEAPEST postage is $29.99, which equals $58.88. At current currency conversion, that's A$73.60.

I really couldn't be bothered waiting two weeks for protein (and pray that the order doesn't get lost between here and Guatamala) so I can save $6.35. And even that saving depends on a good exchange rate.

Even if BB.com where to open up here, I doubt they would be selling OW for A$36. There are these little things called importing and tax.

wow $79.95 is REALLY CHEAP! *sarcastic*

if you place an order from bb.com youre not just going to buy 1 product, you're gonna get an entire stack to cut down on shipping costs... which then does make it A LOT cheaper

plus where is this big range? i sure hope youre not talking about Ada Street Supplements

Would be great, but the supplement market in Australia is not even close to the size of the USA market. Would be a risk, but it may pay off.

If you had a store here in Australia, I would be buying from your guys :-)

Unfortunately, the more you order, the more expensive the shipping gets. E.g. one tub of ON whey costs $29.99 in shipping, order two tubs and the price is $39.99.

But i agree that bb.com should invest in the aust market, bit scarce & pricey downunder.

protein does get a bit expensive if you get it shipped from the states.. I buy ON 100% from Phils Fitness in Penrith. He's reasonably priced, but he has the biggest range i've seen in a while (for a small store anyway). Protein aside, you can make huuuge savings ordering the smaller supplements from the US. I've ordered 2 lots of Superdrol, Rebound XT, Green Bulge, White blood, etc and it didn't cost all that much for shipping. Plus if I was to walk into any store here and mention those supps I'd be sure to get some very weird looks. I think an Australian distributor would be the best go. That way all orders placed on the current bb.com site that are to be shipped to Australia could simply be shipped from here somewhere. The postage savings would be great! And, no I don't think they should be selling ON's whey for A$36, but if they sold it for $60 I certainly wouldn't complain!!

I buy my ON 100% for $69 AU for 5lbs down here. As far as i know, thats the cheapest anywhere in Australia.

If bb.com opened a store here and sold it for a dollar less id probably shop there instead. It isnt worth paying the $30 shipping, if bb.com could send over entire containers filled with the stuff that would lower the cost for us and could potentially sell it for less.

It would not be a risk down here it would just take some good marketing. Theres a million League, Union and AFL players down here who wouldnt know the difference between Creatine and Protein.

Has anyone heard of that Sports Oxy-Shot? Crap supplement, awesome marketing and bam everyone is using it, its pretty funny.

errr who orders just protein? come on

glute costs $65 AU for gen tec 500grams, u can buy highe rpower 1kg for like $25 US

So if you order 10pounds of protein, in which I DO, creatine, glute, multi v's etc, you end up saving like $100-200

trust me ive done the figures!!

ive found a place where u can buy 50pounds of protein for like $300AU with shipping :P but it takes 4-6 weeks, unless u wanna pay an extra 70US for express

You will need a license to import that amount of protein, you can order no more than 3 months supply for personal use at a time and no more than 15 months worth in any 12 month period unless you have a permit.

If you did order tha amount of protein and had a permit you would still have to pay anywhere from $100-200 in taxes and custom fees anyway so cant see it being viable

    Unhappy

What are you guys paying in import taxes / customs fees when importing
from BB.com or from elsewhere in the US? I havent ordered any supplements from overseas yet and was wondering how much tax / fees an order worth say $60 - $70 AU would attract?
I'm assuming the fees would be directly dependant on the value of the order???

Keep the order under $100-150us and you shouldnt pay any fees. I regulary order $300-$400US of supps at a time but the sender declares the amount under $100 and I havent had to pay any extra fees so far.

I bought about 20lbs of quality, tested protein, half a kilo creatine for about $196(at exchange rate 75c) Australian from a foreign US company a couple of months ago. there's also a natural protein shop in aus online that's alright.

bb.com isnt a proper shop is it- just offices and warehouses not actual storefronts.

Well bb.com may do really well over here, but then again they may just be like everyone else, which is more likely.

Businesses take into account everything, youre going to be paying for the time it takes to bring thier stock over, you will be paying for advertising, you will be paying for their huge shipping fees, you will be paying for any imports and duties they incur, which would be alot.

More than likely at the end of the day, bb.com in australia would just be a few bucks cheaper than other online suppliers over here.

It really makes no sense for them to invest in australia anyway, their market is very small. If i was them, id go to the UK and use the UK as a base for all of europe.

ON whey is just one product they sell that is cheap, and even after you compare shipping fees and time, it is more worth your while to buy it from a shop for a few bucks more. The only advantage bb.com has is its range.

I used to buy from them, their customer service is great, however i have since switched to a rival supplier, that allows me to customise my proteins, i can get 5lbs of Whey Protein coldfiltration isolate, for a few bucks more than ON Whey, that is a deal id take any day of the week, and the shipping is cheaper and the protein, tastes better and is of a lot higher quality.

bb.com is great in the US market, they probably do well in canada too, but moving to australia would be stupid business wise, id go to the UK.
