    So you need calories???

So bulking season is coming, and soon will come the onslaught of whiny little "I can't seem to get all those calories" threads. Well, I made a batch of my homemade protein bars today and sat down and figured out the calories.

    #1 Here is the recipe:

    16 ounces Natural peanut butter
    8 tablespoons honey
six scoops of Optimum Chocolate whey protein powder
    1 cup of uncooked oatmeal

Mix the pb and honey in a bowl, microwave on full for 80 secs. Add the rest and mix together. Can add raisins/nuts etc to taste. Smooth into 13x9 tray and leave for 20 mins. Cut into 10 to 12 equal bars and wrap and store in fridge.

This is a great tasting recipe that I modified from one I found on 'bolex

Now here is the breakdown on a batch of the goodies:

    Protein: 254 grams
    Carbohydrates: 282 grams
    Fats: 236 grams

This batch gives you a whopping 4268 calories. Thats right, over 4000 Calories and 250+ grams of protein.

So, if you can't get your bulk on...I DONT WANT TO HEAR IT!!!!!!

    Good post Brother.

It's going OVER the limit that worries me.

I hear you bro. Unfortunatly, I have learned too much in the last 3-4 months that I want to try. Leaning up...to scarecrow proportions right now, and going to try more of a 3 week short cycle approach, keeping cals high, but not insane, seeing if I can drop on 5-10 pounds each cycle and keep it nice and lean. I am trying to end my bulking/cutting days..just take it slow, and just put on quality mass while staying lean..so no more 9000 calorie days for me!

As far as how much is in each bar..I refuse to do simple division for you. Just cut into the # of squares you want and DIVIDE. Next you will want me to eat them for you also..lol!

All depends on how you look at it bro. The natural PB gives you some nice healthy fats (and some not so great ones I guess)

I have played with my diet for years, and I found that when I bulk, I can eat whatever I want up to 6:00. After that I can't do carbs or it goes to my waistline.

When your bulking...most eat whoppers, big Macs, etc..to get enough calories. I just feel this is a bit of a "cleaner" alternative. You can certainly argue the amount of fat in it..then just cut it down to 8 oz penut butter, and perhaps more honey. Higher carbs, lower fat. It is simply meant to be a caloricly dense food, which has high protein, and you can take anywhere with you.

Why would the protein powder go bad?? You lost me on this question. Your not heating the powder, just the PB and honey.

LMAO..leaner and meaner..my cutting programs would probably scare the hell out of most people here..I am usually quite unorthodox, and do not follow many of the diet tips that really are gospel. I rely on a caloric deficit, and really just eat a big meal first thing in the morning (approx 1000 cal) a smaller meal at lunch (approx 500 cal) and about 250 cal at 6:00 and thats it. I just worry about protein intake, and dont really bother worrying about carbs and fats in their ratios. My lunch may actually be a 6 pack of chicken Mc Nuggets. It allows me to not feel like I am dieting to death and get bored and binge. If I am craving something, I just have it in the morning. That may include pizza..lol! Aside from that I like on diet pepsi and crystal lite. Probably 4 litres of diet pepsi, and a gallon of crystal lite (raspberry flavor) in a day.

    So..cutting, I am no expert. Now bulking..THAT I could write a book on..lol!

i saw this recipe on the nutrition board and tried it. It tastes incredible, feels like a cheat(even on a bulk).

Whats so bad about it dear? Higher calories in the AM..when you have all day to burn them off, at least 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight, and the rest is really minutia.

Think about it a minute...a multi or two provides your vitamins, you get your protein, and you have a caloric deficit. Really, what more do you need? Okay, you may say I eat a good amount of unhealthy fats eating things like McNuggets and Pizza on occasion (certainly not every day) but if I am operating at a caloric deficit, my body must burn those fats for energy.

True, doing it "perfectly" may result in faster weight loss..I am honestly not sure, yet if you diet "perfectly" and cheat 3 days in a week due to cravings, how much more effective is it really? I can have anything I want..it just has to be earlier in the day. I dont have to worry about cravings..if I want a frosted donut, I have it in the morning with a protein shake. Evenings are hard the first 3-4 days, but you learn to drink a lot, and it all works. After 6 is when I switch to the crystal light so I do not have caffeine keeping me up all night.

It really is kind of simple. Will it work for everybody..I dont know. It does work for me very well tho, the only thing that was more effective ever (seemingly) was a keto diet. What I found with that tho was it tended to make me drop 10 pounds of water weight in the first week and a half...and as soon as I went off the diet, it came back..so it is really an "illusionary" weight loss in a sense, in terms of how fast a keto diet really is. I am not saying it isnt effective, just illusiory in its initial effects. With my diet, I don't have those situations..what I lose is what I lose.

Ummm...again, I am not a big supps person, feeling that most are useless. Food, a multivitamin, and PH/PS type supplements. The PH/PS type "cycles" are the only time I use other things. During a cycle I will run vitex every day, and post cycle I will run ZMA, Maca, Vitex, clomid and armi/femura.

Other than that, I will buy a 100 gram container of creatine, and toss it in with each 5 pound jug of optimum protein. Just toss it in and shake it up. I figure I go thru a jug in about 20 days, so thats approx 5 grams of creatine a day. I have a seperate jug of protein for my recipe.

So, natural bulking, I guess just protein, a multi, and creatine.

Cycle wise..I throw the kitchen sink at it post-cycle to get the "boys" back up and running as soon as it is physically possible..lol! The sooner they are running, the more gains you keep.

Thanks Wardog, great recipe and easy to make. I'll be bulking in late winter. I'm glad to see you (as well as a few others on here) use the K.I.S.S principle, as I do. I do believe that perfection in diet will achieve results (obviously), but I'm human, not a damn robot!!

I agree jweave, I am in business, and my job often requires business lunches and the like. Going out to a fancy italian place..doesnt leave much room for a keto diet..so I had to adjust my diet to correspond with my work life. Make me independantly wealthy, and I will follow everything perfectly. Until that time comes..I have to adjust.

After 6 is when I switch to the crystal light so I do not have caffeine keeping me up all night.

yeah, but then, i don't "cheat" very often, infact, durring the week i'm extremely strict, i eat nothing but what i've planned to eat and what matches my caloric intake plus protein, carb, and fat ratio's daily. depending on what your deffinition of "cheating" is, maybe it's eating a single peice of pizza, maybe an entire meal, composed of a cheese burger, fries, and milk shake, or maybe it's a snack of potato chips, containing aproximately 3-4 chips and that's it. for some reason, food doesn't interest me, i have no use for it unless it's going to do somthing for me, sure, sometimes i'll have somthing, but cheating 2-3 times a week? i don't even cheat that much a month. hey, if your verson of cutting up works, then stick to it, if eating 8 meals a day, drinking a gallon and a half of water works for me and spreading my calories threwout the day and consuming specific foods at specific times of the day works for me, i'll stick to it, the way i see it is, the more you put in, the more you get out.
