Now, I'm not one to say anything, because I'm in one currently, but I've been with the girl for over 3 years now. She is finishing up her culinary school education and has been "here-and-gone" for awhile, as she's gone to 4 different schools in the past year, so it has taken a toll on us, but because we were so close before, we've made it through any sort of roadblocks. However, if you don't already have that foundation in place beforehand.......then its a really, extremely.....difficult proposition.

I'm not suggesting, I'm telling you that you don't have any choice. I would talk to her first, see what made her act that way, but it seems like its over, and if thats the case, living and learning is all you can do here.


Don't get mad at her, or at least don't show it around her, just accept it as a life lesson and focus on improving yourself and meeting other girls. Many guys have wound up in this situation, after investing much MUCH more time and money in a woman, so you should consider yourself fortunate in some ways.



But for goodness sakes, don't be so quick to shell out hard-earned dough on a woman that you barely know. When you have been together for a long time, or are married, then feel free to spoil a woman, otherwise, stick to conservative gifts that won't leave you breaking the bank, and then leave you with a whole lot of remorse if that girl happens to wakeup one day and decide that she doesn't want you anymore. Women are finicky, especially at your age, don't get so far in with one that you can't find your way out.

The first thing that you've learned here is that you don't really know someone in just 6 months. Obviously, you made the choice to believe she would be there for you, or you wouldn't have spent all that money on her.

This decision was based upon wishful thinking. You saw someone who fit a number of your desire criterions, and you then took the rest of the personality you WANTED her to have, and just threw that in with what you actually knew to be true. Problem is... you assumed she had integrity, you didn't wait until you could be pretty sure she did.

I like to call this "playing pin the personality on the partner."

This game does things to us like this:

"Well, she seems nice, so she must be honest."
"Well, she wants to spend time with me, so she must be loyal."
"You see, she said 'thanks for the puppy,' so she must be really grateful."

And on and on it goes.

You must learn to question these "obvious"es. Is it really true that she is honest if she's nice? (for example only)

Is it really true that if she says thanks this time, she is a grateful person in general? If she has long hair, is she definitely really a hippy? (okay, a bit silly there)

I think that gets the idea.

Be aware of this tendency in ALL humans, be mindful of it, and don't play pin the personality on the other party.

I was with a girl for almost two years and was in that phase where you truly believe and feel that nothing could ever go wrong. I spent way too much money on her, buying lots of high-end brand gifts. It's not worth it.

That's not what Amris is getting to. She's simply trying to warn you to save you from repeating mistakes in future relationships. Try taking the criticism with an open mind.

I think what she said also has to do with putting a girl on a pedastal - where you have this perfect image of your significant other in your head (and often times have unrealistic expectations of her).
