It seems many do not understand to search before posting a new thread, but the one's that do may not know how to search in the first place. Any other input on this topic is welcome.
-In the advanced search screen there are two options, one for searching for terms found in a post or by threads started, and a search for a certain users posts or threads started.
-To find a topic by thread, type in the subject and select "Search titles only". Doing this will list the topics by previous users who have started threads. Example, typing in ECY yields many results but is where you could find "The Basics of the ECY Stack" started by sawatea. Not selecting the "search titles only" option will result in searching for only the term and may not return the results you are looking for.
-To be more specific, you can filter results by replies, date and other options. You may choose to show your results as posts or titles.
-When searching for a certain users posts, the same rules would still apply. You may select individual posts or threads started by the user. A quick way to do this is also available by clicking under the users name and selecting "find all posts by user".
-You may also specify the forum you wish to search in. By not selecting a forum, the search will display results for every forum on the site.
-Most (90%) of topics have been covered in length in many threads so the reason many users get the SEARCH-Tech message from me or others is because there is information about the certain topic already covered. Quite likely there were very good posts about a topic that may not be repeated in a new thread.
-When threads are long it also helps to use the "Search This Thread" option, which will locate a term within the thread.

Also, when using the search button, if you want to search for something like M1T, NAC , or CEE with 3 letters.. you need to use quotes and select the SEARCH TITLES ONLY option:
Example:

just a lil' bit
my advice:
1.) Learn to search before pu12en12g shows up and tells you to.
(pu12, you'd be proud of me in here)
2.) Don't start a thread with "I've already searched and everything, but didn't find it. How do I..." I made this mistake in my n00b days and paid dearly.
3.) Feel free to google stuff as well. All the information you need may not necessarily be on on bb.com.
4.) Spelling. Make sure your word(s) is/are spelled correctly. Unless it's a specific product, open up Word and spell-check it.
5.) Cross at the green, never in between.part of DA...keep it on the QT

For reference
Learn to use the search button.
How to use the search button effectively:
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=427948
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/search.php?
a) By searching, reading, and bumping another thread to the top you save everyone time, because they don't have to repeat everything that has already been said. 99% of the topics posted about have already been discussed at lengths in the past. You can click on the search button in the top right corner and find information on a variety of topics, as well as on the articles section on the main bodybuilding.com site. This will help you find what you're looking for quicker and easier, and put less stress on the older members of the site who have probably answered your question more than once.
b) Others beginners like yourself ultimately benefit from the other thread instead of having to wait (like you) for answers in your new (empty) thread
c) Ultimately, if people searched and bumped relevent threads to the top, we would end up with more quality threads, and not as much "scattered info". Making it easier for everyone to learn, and help others learn which is why we are all here hopefully.Sinners in the hands of an angry Mod.

pu12en12g unrelated but related: Do the mods just destroy the threads that annoy them, or do some mods go on a thread-locking rampage once in a while? I understand that there are hundreds of worthless created threads per hour, but sometimes it seems like we're overrun. Is there really a response possible besides "there are only so many mods and we do what we can."? I guess I just didn't know how liberal the mods were with destroying idiotic threads and banning frequent abusers.
