Most girls lately are opting for little to no platform. Plus, they're easier to walk in.
Just remember, the higher platforms are designed to give the look of more length to your legs. And in competition, it's all about symmetry. Judge your own body and decide from there how much platform would look best.Lift something heavy

And in case you are wondering why I know of this link. A friend of mine and I are starting a shoe company and we plan to do a figure/fittness line.Wiz
I don't use Bowflex. The Bowflex is lame. I only workout on the original Chuck Norris Total Body Gym. It's hardcore!

Before shopping for shoes it's important to know what type of shoes to look for. Obviously the trend is the clear heels used by dancers. Three inch heels are adequate. Anything more and you impede your ability to walk fluidly. Remember, these shoes weren't really made for walking! LOL! Taller girls may want shorter heels to blend in better with shorter girls in a larger open class at smaller shows. However, if classes will be broken up into 2 or 3 classes know that you will blend in fine because all the girls will be in heels and therefore just as tall as you.
You might think that buying a shoe with an ankle strap is the safest bet so your shoe doesn't go flying across the stage. But aesthetically it cuts off your leg at the ankle decreasing the appearance of length, and creates a distraction away from the torso where the judges attention should be. So opt for a shoe that's a slide on or with a short strap that fits behind the heel.
One option is to shop at dancer's (strippers) and lingerie boutiques for shoes since that's there style of shoe. But for the most part that will be your most expensive option because of their mark-up. Your best bet is to shop online. Unlike regular shoes it won't matter as much how they actually look on your feet because we are all wearing the same style. The only difference is embellisments. And the fit is flexible since the uppers are made of flexible plastic that stretches.
Many girls like snaz.com to buy shoes. I reccomend buying from Suits You Swimwear since they are in our business making competition suits, so we should support the small businesses who help make us look glamorous! Here's the link to Suits You Swimwear:

I like the slide off shoes better than ankle straps as well, not only for the aesthetics, but so that they're easily removed backstage between callouts. I prefer to pump up barefoot and I don't want to worry about fastening and unfastening buckles all day.
