is this actually true?...so if i drank 1 gallon of nearly frozen water, it would burn more calories than if I drank 1 gallon of only mildly chilled water? I didnt know the body burned calories by heating water at all...

Does anybody know how many calories it's possible to burn whilst the body raises the temprature of the water inside?

I'm curious as to know, this is an interesting topic.

That's laxatives. Too much water can kill but you have to work at it.

Lets see. It takes 1 cal to raise a gram of water 1 oC. So lets say you drink ice water at say 4 oC and your body has to warm it to 37C. Thats 33 oC or 33 cal per gram. If you drink 3.8 L (1 gal) per day, thats 3800 mL or 3800 g or 125,400 cal or 125 kcal (food calories) per day. 125.4 kcal x 365 days= 45,771 kcal/3600 kcal per lb fat = 12 lbs per year. And thats drinking a gallon of ice water every day. And I didn't even need a study for that.

This doesn't seem right, but I can't see your work and tell you what you did wrong. Ice water is about 4C as it is generally not in equilibrium when consumed, but lets use zero to correspond with your calculation. bodytemp is 37C. It takes 1 cal to raise 1 g of water 1 oC. Thats 37 cal per gram. A L is 1000 mL which is almost exactly 1000g or 37000 cal or 37 kcals per L. 3.8 L to 1 gal = 140.6 kcal/gal. 3600/140.6 = 25 gallons of freezing water to lose a pound. Hardly seems worth it, does it?

Any way you calculate it, the lesson is to not expect sipping cold water to help you lose weight.
