You will fit right in around here. Most of us exhibit numerous signs of blunt impact trauma, growing up under power lines, and living in homes where the lead-based paint was flaking. It is good to be an athlete.

Thanks. Out of curiosity what technically counts as bombing. Like unracking a weight and then it just falls because you can't support it? Or lowering a weight and not being able to start upward motion at all?

Bombing = failing to make any attempts for one particular lift = out of meet.

Yeah. I'm strongly considering entering power lifting competition myself.

I was wondering what sort of weight would typically place in the 132 class.

Currently, my max bench is about 230

But I think my deadlift and squat suck.

    Deadlift is like 285

Squat is... I dont even know. When I hit like 300lbs I almost feel like I'm not doing the entire motion. That and I'm scared to try and max <.<

Who cares where you would place? I mean, I know you do, but your first meet you have so much other crap to worry about and learn, really, that it should be the last thing you are thinking about. Doing lifts under contest conditions is radically different than doing them in the gym.

Yeah, take your time, do most of your warm ups with lower weights, such as the bar, 95, 135, etc. Do not wear yourself out with heavy weight ahead of time. After 135, I jump to 185, 225, etc. but do only singles. At this point, I am warm, but my CNS needs to get ready to handle heavier weight. Always remember that warming-up is not working out, it is doing enough to get the maximal effort from your body without injury.

there's alot of money, time, energy, and pride sacrificed going to a meet just to possibly come in last place, just something I think more people should think about IMO.

Bah. First meet is a learning experience. Go and learn.

Hell, I have entered bench meets to test my PR's under meet conditions, and it is my worst lift.

True...but competing in your first meet is more of a learning expierence than anything else. I always approach my meets as trying to best my PR's and win my division...but my first meet was nothing but a learning expierence.
Best lifts done at a powerlifting meet:
    Raw Bench 523
Bench Press 673 (single ply titan f6)
    Raw Deadlift 650
Deadlift 702 (single ply Inzer MaxDL)
Squat 680 (single ply Inzer Hardcore)

Thanks so much for this, Arlecchino. I've read several pl meet primers now and this is one of the best. My first meet is in a little more than a month and I'm gettin pretty stoked!

I think for my first meet I'll open with a weight I can do for 5, then a weight I can triple, then my 1RM. Gotta keep the ol ego in check... haha.
