    When running, calves KILLING me

After my workout i started to run on the treadmill with a 6.0 setting. i do my normal stretches, walk for 5 min, then run. About 5 min into running i can feel my calves tighten up, and it starts to burn, 10 min into running i have to stop. When i get of the treadmill i can hardly walk as my calves are so swollen and tight, all i want to do is sit down and rub them, heh. Whats the problem here? I have nice adidas running shoes, so that shouldnt be the problem?

Hey, I'm obssessed with running more then I am with bb, so heres my 2 cents.

No matter how much you lift, and stregthen your legs you cannot develop all of your tiny muscles for running without actually running. (there are like hundreds of muscles in your legs if I'm correct?)

My advice to you does not sound logical but it is true. Take bigger steps when running. Or a better alternative run outside, with bigger steps.

1 last thing eat a big bowl of oatmeal before your run. You won't regret it

are u experiencing shin splints or is the pain strictly in your calves? Ive had running shoes in the past that would put extra strain on my calves and just couldnt use them to run... if the pain persists i would recommend trying a different pair/brand of shoes.

I had major pain in my calfs whenever I got a growth spurt. That might be the culprit!

A king may move a man, a father may claim a son. But remember that, even when those who move you be kings or men of power, your soul is in your keeping alone. When you stand before God you cannot say "but I was told by others to do thus" or that "virtue was not convenient at the time." This will not suffice. Remember that.

if your bb'ing why are you running? Dont do HIT cardio. Do LIT cardio. *High intensity cardio* *low intensity cardio* My recommendation if this is possible walk for 60 minutes before you have breakfast. You lose minimal muscle while losing fat consistently. Do that 3-4 times a week in 1 month you'll be more cut.

So don't do HIT which has been proven to be muscle sparing, but go do cardio on an empty stomach after being catabolic all night? Great advice.

Running is fine, carido vascular system is just as important, if not more, than lifting.

Sounds like you strained/pulled or have shin splints. Stop running for a week. Start again slowly, avoiding any running for 2-3 days after lifting calves. Do slow jogs for short periods of time and work your way back in. Don't start back at level 6.

If pain persists, see a doctor. Or see one now.

Do you have flat feet, or an arch that isnt as high/big as average, becuase I have relatively flat feet, and although I am athletic, I play football and such, my calves tighten up considerably and my shins hurt to but not as much, I also actually slow down when I run on the balls of my feet like your supposed to, so I run kind of awkward. This may be your problem, as it sounds almost identical to what I experience.

If it's just a burn (a really awkard feeling burn) and your calves feel sore and tired even immediatly following your cardio, it's probably just because you haven't ran in awhile...

If it's a sharp pain (a twinge feeling) then immediatly get off. There has to be something wrong with you calf

Don't forget to stretch it too, also try warming up with a brisk walk before running then stretching.

    Running shoes should help too
