People Still Wear Mark Chmura Jerseys

You know, I don't know what really happened in that hot tub, but it's naive, if not stupid, of this reporter to not grasp that people will exploit pro athletes and celebrities for the all-mighty dollar (which is what I believe happened in this case). Chmura's career was ruined over this, but he's still one of my favorite players. I guess I'm not alone.

    http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2007/...hmura-jerseys/

Mark Chmura is probably my all-time least-favorite NFL player. there's just something that rubs me the wrong way about the hypocrisy of a guy who goes around talking about the importance of family values, right up until a teenager says he raped her at a post-prom party. (He was acquitted of rape; no one disputes that he was a married man in his 30s hanging out in a hot tub with drunk teenage girls.)

So it was a little stunning to me to learn from Rumors and Rants that if you take a trip to Lambeau Field, you can still see people wearing Mark Chmura jerseys. Really, Packer fan? That's the guy whose name you want across your back?

I get that sometimes fans buy jerseys and things don't work out the way they thought. But it's time to put the Chmura jersey in that dark corner of your closet where no one will ever see it. He's a lousy human being, and besides, he hasn't played in eight years.

The guy definitely made a really poor decision to put himself in that situation, but bottom line-he got acquitted of the crime. He was a very popular player and I don't think its that unreasonable to still wear his jersey to a game. Although, after him not playing for 8 years you'd have to think that there wouldn't be too many people wearing them.

Unfortunately, the long retired player jersey still gets worn to games. I've been at Washington games a year ago and would not only see past great players (which is fine IMO), but past bad players or players w/ 1 year stints. I've seen Deion Sanders, Bruce Smith and Heath Shuler jerseys at washington games the last couple years. Those are the jerseys I'd be most ashamed to wear solely because the player wasn't good for the team and has long since been gone.

I won't completely bash anyone for wearing jerseys of players who were good for their respective teams but have had off the field incidents. Heck, I think Shayne Graham of the Bengals was I believe charged with statutory rape from an incident with a high school girl in the northern VA area a couple years ago. I could be wrong as I can't research the story right now.

I'm a Cowboy fan and Irvin's jersey is still popular amongst many Cowboy fans. I live near Baltimore and no one has hidden their Ray Lewis jersey by any means.

If people can still wear Vick jerseys, and I have seen them, then wearing a Chmura isn't that bad.
