Why does POKER get so much Play on ESPN? Is it really a Sport?
I like playing poker on Friday nights with the guys but damn! How can this be considered a sport? It gets more Coverage then Boxing.
Anyone know how this World series of poker got so huge?

No idea, but I always see it on tv. I don't mind watching it sometimes, but it really does get old after a while.

ya I dont get why they dont show BodyBuilding instead? but they show this? Poker just promotes people to sit on there ass and say hey I can get rich just playing poker! while bodybuilding would actually help inspire people say hey I wanna train too.Originally Posted by Southern Cross

It's really popular is the main reason.
I actually like watching the WSOP on TV but yea I can see where people would be upset watching it on ESPN.
That's why they play it on slow nights like Friday when everyone is out socializing.--O|||||||O--

ESPN also had the boggle or scrabble championships on yesterday.
They also have awesome stuff like spelling bees and cheerleading comps on there.

I'm sorry but if it's not physical I don't consider it a sport.
I've yet to figure out why they show this BS on ESPN.Friendship b/w women:

its popular because everyone thinks they can play with the pros and win plus there is so much money involved.
I love playing and watching Poker but i would say it is definetly not a sport, its just a card game.

It's the biggest poker tournament of the year, where unknown people have a chance to go up against professional poker players and win a whole lot of money.

A friend of mine finish 2nd at the WSOP a few years ago - he calls it a sport. Most people don't realize how draining it is after playing several days straight on a few hours of sleep.

im not a poker player and im not saying it sucks but its not a sport
you have people playing from 10-100 male and female....****s ridiculous...no athletic ability required but alot of luck is.....im not criticizing the game of poker im just saying it aint a sport and im tired of watching characters play poker all day on a sports channel☆$★♠☆ BiG-BaLLiN ☆♠★$☆

u guys are forgetting one big factor ...... E.S.P.N stands for entertainment and sports programming network .....they consider poker an entertainment thing even tho it's not that exciting

its a good money maker when they have nothing else to put on.. the major sports are only on so much
