I like these exercises, but I hate the swinging part. What is the best way to keep from swinging when doing these exercises?

Do you swing to use momentum to get up? If so, then you probably can't do them strictly on your own. If this is true, I suggest you do two things. One, start doing perfect form on the lat-pull down (if you have one), and two, what my friends used to do with me until I can do chins good now, is have them sit on the ground and you cross and bend your feet. They take your feet, and the other person uses their hands to put your feet straight up. If you need it a lot, both the people will get a good workout. It worked pretty good for me.
