    Question Swinging on Pullups and Chinups!

    I like these exercises, but I hate the swinging part. What is the best way to keep from swinging when doing these exercises?

    I tense up when doing pull-ups, it stabilizes me

    Having someone hold your legs is a good idea.

    Do you swing to use momentum to get up? If so, then you probably can't do them strictly on your own. If this is true, I suggest you do two things. One, start doing perfect form on the lat-pull down (if you have one), and two, what my friends used to do with me until I can do chins good now, is have them sit on the ground and you cross and bend your feet. They take your feet, and the other person uses their hands to put your feet straight up. If you need it a lot, both the people will get a good workout. It worked pretty good for me.

    your probably not strong enough. go to the pullup assist machine and do it with the lightest pssible assistance for a few weeks until its easy

    Don't have one. I work out in the school gym. But the swinging starts after the descent.

    Try to do them more controlled, pause at the bottom and get full ROM, it will take time but you will get control of it soon.

    Flex your abs and hips when doing it and just do them a little slower mentally focusing on the lats or whatever bodypart you want. If you think of just the movement you will do whatever you can to get up there hence swinging.
