Each muscle should be worked once per week. I like lifting 5 days, cardio 1 day and rest on sunday.
For chest, 9-13 sets should be sufficient.

Go till failure. Do 3 warmup sets, then do 1 set till failure 8-10 reps. then go to another exercise, do 1 warmup set, 1 till failure, go to another ecersice etc. etc. Do 4 - 5 exercises.

I thought our goal here was to build muscle? Going to failure fatigues your muscles, and fatigued muscles are weak muscles. How are you going to overload or use maximum intensity with a weak muscle?

I do about 6-7 total sets for chest; usually 6. With enough intensity you don't really need that many sets; with 6 heavy, intense sets, I can rock my chest into growth.

Going till failure damage your muscle. You build up muscle by regenerating new muscle tissue. So if you damage your muscle by going till failure you've got maximum gains(offcource when diet is in check). Why do you think all pro's train till failure? Ever seen Dorian Yates? He trains beyond failure.

this is what i think too. i have heard the reason the can go into failure and gain muscle is cuz of the roids?

i never understand the idea that u can take it easy, and gain more muscle.

i do understand overtraining, but going to failure once a week isnt that taxing on ur muscles, maybe ur CNS tho.

Its been proved with science buddy, that HIT training is more affective for mass, im not an expert atall, but i have read a hell of alot of proper articales and all, and if you go untill failure, think about it, your muscles are going untill they couldnt possible do anymore, there exhausted, that is the aim in weight training, as thats how you build muscle, most people do sets and sets untill they finally get to failure, if you can do it first time, think how much more you can do.

short rests between sets will fatigue your muscles faster than anything.

i do 1 working set. unless shooting triples and doubles to work up to a single i see no need to do more than 3-4 sets for chest, or any given bodypart.
