Thumbs up Dumbbell Bench Press and Bodyweight

If any of you do dumbbell bench presses what is your bodyweight and how heavy are the dumbbells you use, and the number of reps you do? Today I used 80 lb dumbbells for 2 sets of 8 reps and I'm 5'9" 145 lbs.

for weighing only 145 lbs. 80's are quite respectable!

i'm 210 lbs and I usually go to the 110's for sets of 8.

    Weigh: 175

    70lbs / 3 sets / 8 reps
(using a full range of motion and 4-6 sec. negatives - no partial rep crap)

This week I should be going up to 75lbs / 3 sets / 6 reps at the least.

Right now I'm back on training after 4 months of involuntary pause.
So now i don't lift as hard as i used to. But in my good times my max was:

    90 lbs. 4 sets 8 reps each.

sometimes i supersetted and giantsetted with flyes and incline presses. (obviously with not the same weight as the flat bench presses)

    Now i am: 6', 180lbs

but back then 6' 190 lbs.
    Build your dreams.

I'm 24 years old and started lifting at the age 13. Lifted on and off for 11 years, mostly off. I lifted non-stop for the past 6 months. The weird thing is that the I'm lifting to gain muscle size more than strength but I'm gaining strength more than muscle size although I did put on about 15 pounds of muscle these past 6 months.

I didn't say Assassinator, I said "most of you", so its good that you row more than you bench. I certainly do. The most I've done on DB BP (monday) was 85s for 8 reps. My rowing is 4 sets of 10 with the 110 DBs but I keep having to increase reps cause thats as high as my gym goes with DBs.

Why does one necessarly have to row more than they bench?
I have good chest and lats and I am about even, and probably would be stronger on the bench if my arms and shoulders were comparable to my chest. Maybe if you count barely moving the dumbbell off the ground a row then yeah, but I don't see anything wrong with rowing less than your bench.

I bet YOU can't row or bench even half of what these guys can so come off it already. BTW, I row more than a measley 110 -easy!
so stop bringing rowing into every topic already it's getting old and you're not doing anything for your image by putting people down.

Anyway, I'm currently using 100's for db bench. and weigh 192, so 80 lbs is pretty damn good for a 145 pounder!

Your back is a lot bigger than your chest, so if you can't row more or equal to what you can bench, that means your an amatuer BODYBUILDER (not weightlifter) in my eyes because the back is so important in bodybuilding that I don't see how anyone could let it lag behind the chest. It's like having incredibly strong/big biceps but having triceps that are small. Or having huge quads/small hams etc.

Congratulations on making fun of someone who has almost 10 times your posts buddy. You might want to remember we are talking 1 armed DB rows on a bench, not standing BB rows. So how much do you DB row Pythons, master of awesome physique?

I bet half these guys don't even work their back - noone gets impressed by deadlifts at the gym. Why don't you shut your mouth pythons and NOT start a fight with a vet.

Bigtraps, I know what you were referring to and I dont have an awesome masterful physique, but you sit there and judge people and always bring up rowing when someone mentions their lifts.
What the hell does a certain amount of posts have to do with respecting other people???? that has got to be the stupidest thing I have ever heard on here. You can post a million times and still be an idiot or you can post 10 times and be respected. If that's what it takes to be a "VET" than I never want to be a vet.
Perhaps you should re-read the title of the thread and re-evaluate your existance here. What do you want us to say? That you're the man? seek therapy or keep your insecurities to yourself because nobody's trying to start a fight here; especially with a big time "vet " such as yourself.

BTW vet, people generally dont lift to impress, they do so to better themselves. Grow up!

Grow up!
No I don't bring up rowing when someone mentions their lifts, I bring it up when someone talks about how much they can bench press. This is millionth time there has been a how much can you lift thread in the wrong section and it really gets on my nerves. It especially gets on my nerves when Half the people that reply are lieing their asses off.

About me having been here longer than you - it's something called seniority, I don't know if you've heard of it. I am not asking for people to call me the man, I am asking for people to not lie their asses off or start stupid threads about how much weight one can bench press in the wrong damn section. THIS ISN'T THE POWERLIFTING SECTION WHERE YOU TALK ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU CAN LIFT, ITS THE EXERCISE SECTION WHERE YOU ASK HOW TO PERFORM LIFTS CORRECTLY AND SHARE IDEAS FOR NEW EXERCISES. Asking how much someone can bench press has absolutely nothing to do with how to do it correctly. Maybe a mod should move this to the powerlifting section, then I would leave it alone because it wouldn't be somewhere where I learn many things. Part of being a "vet" is knowing where certain threads go, and generally this is a newbie thing to ask. When was the last time you saw str8flexed, b-boy or other big guys ask how much everyone else lifts. That's right, they don't start threads like that because threads like that DO NOT HELP anyone.

BTW python, what was this "accident" you had that you state in your profile? I would be interested to know. I doubt it is a lifting accident (my guess is its a car accident) but I would like to know.

One more thing, I AM trying to start a fight here because you called me a lier and a pussy when you said I can't row worth ****.
    I'm back. For good.

I never called you a liar and certainly not a pussy. I dont like to flame people however, I do like to stick up for people when they are being slammed. I'd do the same for you too if you werent slamming people. As for seniority, that's all good but it's not a license to chop people up and if you're into the seniority thing, then you'll respect your elders (me) because i am much older than you. Yes, I'm a new poster but, i have been around for quite awhile before. to answer your question: Yes, i was in a car accident after racing w/ some friends in spain. I've started lifting again after tons of painfull therapy and hope to post some pics (in the correct board) soon. again, i'm not trying to fight, I've offered nothing but encouragement and support to people with the exeption of a few people, so take your frustrations out on the weights- rowing maybe?

    Peace

any mods out there, don't get mad. This is my last post on the subject....

Ok, I just wanted to clear that up. I am no longer mad - I did go to the gym and did take the frustration out on the weights (some rowing lol). I guess I can see where your coming from - I was overbearing so I guess I'll stop my posts on the subject too.

BTW, good luck getting back into the swing of things after the accident.

    Sorry if I offended anyone.
    I'm back. For good.

My back is one of my strongest bodyparts, and it looks that way too, but I STILL cannot row as much as I bench. If you can row w/110's and barely bench w/85s then your chest is lagging.

It's like having incredibly strong/big biceps but having triceps that are small. Or having huge quads/small hams etc.
