    Smith machine + Deadlift style

As i only have a smith machine to work with in my gym when it came to deadlifting i was wondering which style would be best. Ive tried the normal style and it really hurts my back because the motion is locked and it kills my lower back when i deadlift over 100KG this way. I was wondering if the sumo deadlift would be a better choice for me? Ive seen videos of it being done and it seems like the back is more straight and the actual lift relies less on the lower back. If that is correct? then this should be better for me and i can crank up the weight

yes that's true but it will still work the lower back.

also, if all you have to deadlift with is a smith machine, i don't think you should even deadlift. you'll probably end up injuring something because the machine forces the bar to travel only in a straight path, and the movement for a deadlift is not a straight path.

Why do you only have a smith machine to work with?

Can't you just take a barbell from the pressing area?

ive done it a few times at my local gym and i wouldnt even bother. hurts my back way to much and a very odd line of movement.

use dumbells for the time being and if you can go to a gym that has a barbell where you can deadlift properly.

Cant really use dumbells either for it as the heaviest we have is only 25 kg ones making a total of 50 and i am doing over 100 on the smith so it will be like throwing a pillow around.

drop the weight and learn how to deadlift in proper form with lower weights then build on from there.

I'd take the bar from one of the benches and use that to deadlift with.

    My deadlift > your bench
I hate signatures, but I love irony.
