For the gear issue, I know a lot of people who use gear. They all have their reasons and that is a personal choice.

It does not really matter to me one way or the other. If you use gear and break records then so be it. I have been outlifted by lifters that "looked"
like they were on gear. Did not bother me one bit. I am in it for me, not the record books. If I set a record then good for me, but my goal is to lift heavier and set pr's everytime.

I lift mostly in APA because they put on good meets that are near me. I've also lifted in APF and would do another APF meet if there was one within 2-3 hrs of where I live. I haven't been too impressed with what some of the other feds that put on meets near me have to offer so I haven't tried them. APA has both tested and non tested divisions but I just compete in the non tested, it makes no difference to me what anyone else is doing. I'm clean and to me, like some of the others have posted, it's not so much about winning as it is about me vs the weights.

Back to the feds. I have competed in a WABDL meet and set a state record for my class and was not tested, but their where many other stronger lifters that competed that day. As far as IPA, I like them because you have the choice to go Pro (non-tested) or Amatuer (Tested), I see this as evening out the playing field pretty nicely. Finally I love competing in the APF just because their meets seem to always be pretty intense and I like the judging that takes place. All feds have their place and if a USAPL meet ever comes close enough to me, I would enjoy stepping on their platform.

I have lifted in nearly every fed, I enjoy most of them. I like WABDL, APA and APF at this present time. IPF is a huge fed, and the story on the syringes in the trash can was repoted as TRUE in Powerlifting USA, and they even printed a picture of the syringes in the trash can at the meet site, not to trash the IPF, but it did indeed happen, according to the reports. All feds have good and bad points.
