That is my goal for next year. It was 405 for 5, but after seeing this I think I am going to be a bit more ambitious about it. As of right now I am at 325 for 5 or 6.
That guy is a beast though!100% Natural Bodybuilding!

About the only difference between PLing and "Powerbuilding" is the name and maybe a few more bicep exercises.
A lot of the biggest, thickest BBers ever have a long history in PL. i.e. coleman was a competitor.
Kamali "powerbuilds" which is basically what a PLer does...............................................

generally powerlifting is stricktly power..it is different than strength. if someone performs a powerlift such as a clean and jerk or press with 315 they cannot actually lift amount of weight..as the weight goes up they move their body underneath the weight. if you can relate..if somone is 6"5" with their arms above their head, the barbell isnt going 6"5" off the ground, its maybe going 4 ft and then they are sliding their body underneath the barbell before gravity takes its toll. I dont know, nor have I read alot about PL doing bicep exercises or concentrating on muscles like that. they will perform PL movements and stick with it. if they are competing and so forth.
..I finally got to view the video..horrific form. although its some serious weight..try using like 275-315 and performing them, they would be alot more beneficial..and your back was arched where it would be an injury waiting to occur.

I feel some hate and some love, its all good. As to the comments on my form, I am doing them for POWER folks, to break WORLD RECORD DEADLIFTS, not back building. My back has enough mass already, but no one on a PL stage really cares about that. To the guy that suggested I go down to 275-315, remember where I did this at, the Arnold classic! THey wanted heavy weights and they got it, no one really wants to see me do 10 strict rows with 315, which I can do, but hey thanks for the suggestion. The form I use overloads the grip, back, and lets me use heavy weights, which is what I want out of it. I never said I would win a strictness contest, as long as I pull 800 on stage I dont care as much about what the row looks like, just as long as it is helping increase my deadlift. Keep training! if anyone has any powerlifting questions just holla.

What seems so obvious to me, but apparently not to everyone else, is Sgt is one awesome powerlifter. For everyone who blames the man for form, meet him in person and tell him why you are huge, and he isnt. I am sure he would love that! Like he said, he isnt training for a strictness meet. I only wish my back was that wide!
Powerlifting and bodybuilding are different. I was a competitive powerlifter for about 3 years, and I had the rare and enjoyable time of training with one of Sgt's friends and a great powerlifter, Phil Harrington. That man has the body of a competitive bb'er, but man oh man, can that guy move some weight! His intensity is something that I strive for everyday!
Would love to speak more with you Sgt about training and powerlifting! Coming from someone who can appreciate heavy weight.... that was unreal!

Well said.
Nice lifting Sgt. You're a monster.
Also, just the fact that you can hold that weight for that long with a hook grip and no chalk. Awesome!Last edited by gbh; 03-31-2005 at 01:05 PM.

I'm not saying Sgt. can't handle that weight, he obviously can, but that is not proper form for a bent over row. It looks more like a combination between a row and a deadlift. The bar never touches his stomach and he is using a lot of legs.
That video, like I said before, is much like And 1 only with powerlifting.....they look cool and are very entertaining when they are busting out their moves on the court, but its not the smartest or best way to play basketball.
I still give you props Sgt. that is a hella lot of weight.

Hey thanks for the props guys! As some fo you know I am doing rows to help my deadlift. Phil Harrington is a great friend of mine, and stopped by the Cage to say hi several times, and even benched for reps in the Cage. He recently squatted 900 at 181 bodyweight. If anyone has any PL questions throw them my way, I will be glad to help.

I train the DL 2 weeks on, then one week off from pulling, but heavy assistance. SPeed work is done probably twice per month after heavy pulling, 5 singles with 50-60 percent of your best pull. Never more than 5 reps per set! Squats done on separate day, if I am pulling heavy that week I squat light, I do Manta Ray squats never over 500x5 with just a belt.

I took that as you thought those were the only three lifts they do.
Forgive me if I was mistaken, but that seems to be a common belief on these boards.
