Haha...I actually looked into this while a freshman in college. A few friends and I wanted to open a Dunkin Donuts on campus because we had no donut shops and it certainly would have been a big hit. Essentiallly, they required someone with retail management experience to be an investor, around $500k starting, and a few other details I can't remember.
I know you can franchise out a GNC but given the current environment in the industry I feel there are better options or potential option to hold out for (Max Muscle, Vitamin Shoppe, etc.)

i know here in Canada you can open a popeyes supplement store and the franchise fee is
Equipment & Signage $10,000 - $15,000
Fixtures & Tenant Improvements $15,000 - $20,000
Opening Inventory $40,000 - $50,000
* Working Capital $10,000 - $15,000
**Total Investment $75,000 - $100,000 (Plus License Fee
So between 75, 000-100,000 bucksPreSurge = Pre WO.

Unless you are opening up next door to a high traffic gym, you're going to need a lot more than $10 - $15K working capital. It can take a year or two to get your store's name out and develop a regular client base that will allow your store to start turning profit enough to live on. You should assume the store won't be profitable for at least 8 -12 months and have enough money saved up to cover your cost of living expenses during that time.
The new Max Muscle buildouts are costing WAY more than your estimations, but they are really nice looking. You gotta ask yourself if $20K worth of metal shelving is gonna sell more product than $5K in traditional slatwall & wood display tables.

Those quotes are exact numbers..if that makes sense..
The reason there are two number is because the rates are different depending if it is right in town or a little out..location
Thanks for the info though, I do not plan on buying into a chain or anything like that soon though..ONe day..One dayPreSurge = Pre WO.

well I've looked into it.. franchising a nutri-shop is like 158,000 with capitol and licensing and whatnot, storefront lease.. which you can apply for a small business loan but you need 40%.. so about 60gs should get you set up into your own chain supp store. that is just the situation I was dealt when I looked into it.. the more popular stores in my area are GNC, complete nutrition, and vitamin shoppe... Im guessing they would be a little bit more pricier.
