    Unhappy Extended DOMS in legs

I have been doing legs once a week for more than a year and I did a lot of hard mountain biking 3x/week for a whole year previous to that. Mountain biking never gave me DOMS. But doing 5x5 of squats, 3x10 leg curls, and 3x10 leg extensions gives me DOMS for 4 or 5 days. DOMS on the upper body only lasts 2 or 3 days. I haven't had the gains I have had in upper body either and my leg strength is really low. My upper body strength is ok. What is up with that?

Biking used a different part of your muscle, I can never remember if it's fast or slow twitch. Lifting used the opposite. You will have to define gains, do you mean size or strength. If you want to build more strength in your legs up the weight and lower the reps. My doms in my legs lasts much longer than anywhere else i think that's normal.

Remember, your legs get used EVERY DAY, all day. They aren't as easy to rest (recover) and they are some big muscles...

I'm a chef, so am on my feet all day, every day. The best advice I ever got with regards to that is to exercise legs again...albeit lightly, 3 days after a heavy day...called active recovery...really helped me out a lot.

I think its slow twitch for endurance and fast twitch for strength and speed

    Question

So the vast majority have more DOMS pain in the legs than in the upper body?

I've had soreness in my upper quads for what seems like 3 weeks now since I started New Rules of Lifting Fat Loss I. Mostly from split squats and lunges, but it flares up when I do sprints too on off days or play Football. Maybe I'm just not resting enough... I'm really not sure.

Aspirin helps relieve it but I'd rather it just go away already.
