I heard about the myth that lifting heavy weights can cause back damage and keep a teenager from reaching his potential height. However now I hear that the myth is completely false and lifting weights can HELP a person get to his potential height because of the HGH produced.
I'm 17 and I haven't had phsyical activity to stimulate HGH for a very long time, I'm only 5'9 so I am willing to wait before I go to the gym if it hurts the growth. But is it the other way around? Will it not hurt my growth? Will going to the gym actually help me? Are there gym exercises that CAN sabotage my growth?
Please only answer with proven information...
Thanks

actually .. my g/f has a screwed up back due to soccer ( she never works out back ) she plays soccer and the running while kicking the ball screwed up her back.. right now she is goin to the chiropracter 3 days a week and i mentioned to him that i work out lower back by doing
hyperextentions:
(i do it with a 25 lbs)
and he told me that that is excellent goin to the gym adn working out ur back ( not to much weight ) can be amazing for ur back in the later years of life.. working abs and lower back can help u prevent lower back pains in the old years of age (40s and ****)
sooo.. you SHOULD workout back.. it'll be very good for you...
and i dont know about stuntin growth

Im a bit sceptical about the whole idea. Im still growing but i think im growing slower than i should.
Most people seemed to have had a growth spurt already by my age. Im not small - More like average, but lots of people who were smaller are taller.
TBH at your age, you shouldnt really grow much more, if youre really really really paranoid id wait til like 20 but lift - its fun.

Height comes down to genetics. Weight lifting will in no way stunt or increase your height.
