I'm 14..can I lose muscle in 4-5 months of not working out?

My mom and I were talking about how if I join the basketball team at my school I won't have time to work out, she said that I won't lose any muscle.. I work out every day, I know I'm going to lose muscle after a 4-5 month layoff, can somebody settle this for me?

Depends on how much you eat in that time...you need to eat a maintenance diet to offset all the cardio you'll be doing, but not put on fat.

Yes, you will lose muscle in 4-5 months of not working out. How would you maintenance ur strength or muscle-mass? You can't do it by following some diet.

If you don't use the muscles as much they will just shrink.

    definitely gona lose muscle mass.

The person who told you that you won't probably said that becasue she doesn't know what natural size you were before you started workin out. You probably havn't made huge gains either have you? Bottom line is you will lose muscle mass.

Do pushups/situps/chinups/pullups while you can to try and maintain.

she knows what I looked like before, there is a HUGE difference if I had a before and after pic, but I am not huge, or even close to being ripped right now...

Yes you will but it doesnt matter unless u want to go in bodybuilding shows. your only 14 and you got years of lifting ahead of you,

You can do bodyweight exercises after training such as push ups, pull ups, squats etc etc

if you dont workout, yes you will most likely lose muscle..not so much lose it, but it will atrophy adn shrink, happened to me when i first got to school.
my goal is to be able to do a pushup using only my hands. to lift myself off the ground without my feet or legs touching the ground, yet still parrallel to the ground.

ur obvious gonna lose muscle if you dont work out for like a half a year

but i dont see the problem workout

ur telling me ur thinking about joining one sport for one season and not be able 2 workout?

i play sports all 3 seasons and during the winter which is when u play basketball i wrestle which is about 30 times harder than basketball
so i have 2 take in alot more calories and find time 2 eat

joining the basketball team doesnt mean giving up working out...
