I am 33 years old. I have been lifting on and off for 19 years. I have struggled with bodyfat % and building muscle for a while now. I went for a test and he said my testosterone levels were 252. He put me on Androgel 1% and my levels went up to 350. I never used steroids. The Doc is a buddy of mine and he wants me to keep going on the Androgel. Just wondering what people think. He wants my levels up to 700-800. That is a lot of gel. I take it there is nothing quicker?
Is this why I struggle with bodyfat?

Tell me more......
So glad to hear that someone else out there is doing the gel. I don't know my numbers, and I probably should, but I have been on Androgel for about three years now. My doc said that I have low test (I'm 52) and that's why so many other things about my metabolism have been screwed up. Since I've been on the Androgel, I feel great. I used to go to the freaking gym and knock myself dizzy with every training routine that was recommended to me. Nothing! Now, I exercise for no more than an hour every other day and the gains, even at my age, have been remarkable! I wonder how many other guys out there are struggling with a hormone imbalance and don't even know it. I am tempted to use more than one packet a day, but I notice that it becomes harder for me to pee (enlarged prostate?). I have also heard that too much testosterone is just aromatized into estrogen by the body anyway. What do you guys recommend that I could take in conjunction with the Androgel that would make it work better and be more effective? Please go easy on the jargon because I have never done any other prohormones or steriods and am pretty ignorant in this area. Better yet, if there is a professional out there that would contact me via private message, I would love to hook-up and go over my health history, meds, etc. and get on a good solid program of supplements. I would of course pay well for this advice. Thanks!

Gels and Women...
Hi There,
I am a 27 year old female. Is this gel something I could use to increase my results?
Thanks, any info would be great. Pros and cons.

Ask your doc.....
Head: Androgel 1% is a synthetic form of human testosterone that is derived from (of all things) soy protein. I would be happy to send you the product inserts that come with the Rx (it is a controlled CIII substance), which are super informative. PM me your address. They caution about women using it, but then again they have no idea what people like you and I have up our sleave! Ha! I think they are mainly concerned about a woman of child-bearing age giving birth to a hermaphrodite (not really). All men and women have a balance of test and est in their system. When we begin tipping the scale to suit our desires, there is a certain amount of risk involved. I am sure that your doctor could address all of your concerns. Good luck!

I doubt that you can get to 800 for total test without injections. If you start injecting, you will have to look at anti-estrogens and most likely will want to cycle if you wish to maintain your natural production.
After a TRT cycle my test was at 864, without help I am at 238. I was doing 400 mg cyp ew to reach that level.

I went to my endocrinologist about a year ago with symptoms that lead me to believe I might have a hormone imbalance (tired, no energy, lack of motivation, etc) When they checked my test levels, it was around 250. The doctor said this was a low-normal level. I was on Andro-gel for 28 days and my levels went up about 20 points. After that I went on Testim for 28 days. When I checked my levels after that it was over 3000! To be honest I couldn't tell any difference in the gym or outside of the gym. I really don't think my problem was hormone related, but rather an overtraining issue.
When you have your hormone levels checked, make sure your doctor checks ALL test levels and estrogen levels as well. You can have a normal test level, but if your estrogen is out of balance it can cause problems. Also check cortisol levels as well.
My doctor told me that Testim was better absorbed than Andro-gel and I guess for me it was. You might want to ask your doctor about that product.
If you are constantly taking test, just have your blood work done every 6 months or so.

I am also on Testim. I was on androgel for about 2 years (10 Gms). Switch to Testim. My T-level went over 1200. The Endo pulled me back to 5Gms and now I hover from 600-800. Great stuff.
Question for the Testim users here.....
I am always annoyed with the sticky shirt syndrome. It drives me nut for about 2 hours after I apply the gel.

how do they test your hormone level... a blood test or something?

Question for everyone on Androgel or Testim: How many times did they do your bloodtests before giving you a prescription and what were the levels each time ? Also, is there a co-payment for the gel each month ?

Great Discussion
Sounds like I should look into Testim. Is it an injectable, or is it applied topically? I usually slather on my Androgel 1% after I shower, I haven't noticed any "sticky shirt" syndrome. But then again, I usually give my whole bod a final blast from the blowdryer before getting dressed. My insurance carrier is paying for it currently.....with a $100 co-pay for a three month supply! They suggested that I do a test patch product which would have a $25 co-pay. I am hesitant to do that since I have had such great results with the gel. I had two blood tests before my doc gave me my Androgel Rx. I know that I should be monitoring my levels more closely and its definitely something that I will take up with him on my next office visit.

God damn I better to check to see what my co-pay is going to be

Howdy ya'll been lurking in the forums and I figured I would chime in on the Andro-gel thing. I too have been taking it the small dose 5mg packets once a day, but I don't notice a darn thing, I been on it for about a year now. Well I got prescribed it then went to Iraq (continued to take it while there) then came back, and my doc sent me to be tested again I asked if he could bump up my mg to maybe 10mg.
If he doesn't can I just use 2 packets, and taking the 2 packets would equal 10mg, correct? And the pamphlet says to apply to arms chest or abs, is there another place that I can apply for it to be better absorbed? In addition, if I work out in the early AM should I apply the gel the evening before or just keep putting it on in the AM before I work out?
On the other hand, maybe I will just ask my doc to put me on Testim.
See I been working out most of my adult life and eating military chow but I never see results will upping my dose or switching to Testim help me get better results?
Thanks for reading my post.Last edited by whrzmud; 09-28-2005 at 05:48 PM.

Hi, I have a prescription fro Androgel 1% and I heard I need a "BIN" number to get some discount frmo the manufacturer. I have a BIN number for 1.62%, it is 610020 for $50 a month savings but the pharmacy cannot use that BIN to save on my 1% prescription. Does anyone know what that BIN is for 1% ???
Thanks a lot!

Taking test cyp
My doc tested my test level and I was 160. Prescribed test cypinate 1 cc every 4 weeks. My second blood test was 4 weeks after my 4th injection and test levels were about the same. I would think I need more frequent injection to get levels up around 4-500, right
currently cutting..... again!!

Started with Tes levels around 162-For those who don't know how low that is...any lower and a male's body will have problems like heart attacks, etc.
Other medical related issues as well. But long/short of it is I finally saw a Endo and I was given the patch...that stuff burned the skin and being Italian would rip hair off body. Would give warm sensations at the spot of treatment. I went to the 1% and it bumped me up to 400 doctors wanted me up to 700-900 I took two and I went off the charts to 800-1100 give or take. Now I workout, I do cardio and train in boxing.... My strength went up a great amount, a great amount of energy, and mood changed for the better. I want to clear this up...I am extremely strong now (like I was before the injury). In boxing I'm labeled as one of the harder hitters...amongst golden glove winners. With all this being said, I can workout like a horse...but I haven't been able to drop bodyfat around the waist. I'm still running with it....some stuff I read indicates it takes 6 months of treatment before bodyfat loss starts coming off naturally...I am going to see a college professor teaching in dietary nutritionalist to nail down my diet. (My worse)....Any other advice is greatly appreciated.
Using HIIT training on cardio 3 min on 1 minute low for an hour for up to 4 hrs cardio total a day
Lifting strength is there...always making changes
Boxing training is starting to get easier and on occasion I double up training 1 hr a pc for possible 2 hrs a day"You have to be 100% great mental shape to be in 100% Physical Shape"
