I know they build abs but does it burn the fat therfe also??

well no in the sence that the crunches are doing it but yes you are being Active therfore burning calories but unles you do 1 million i doubt you will even see a budges in your weight

You're going to see better definition when you up your cardio intensity and lower your calorie intake (burning off more than you take in). Try not to eat carbs except in the morning and around the time you are active during the day.
The thing that helped me the most to burn fat was to do sprint intervals for 45 mintues, 4-5 days per week. That's what I'm going to be doing for the next 11 weeks actually.Witt

Crunches if done without weight will build muscle density. They will not directly burn fat, and will definately not spot reduce the fat on your stomach. If you want to build up the muscle size under your abs, you have to do weighted crunches to add resistance and force your muscles to more work (force X distance).
