    The Ask a Question Thread

This is my last attempt to clean this place up (unless I'm given mod powers *cough*Big H*cough*).

Here is how it works (and it has worked wonderfully elsewhere), if you have a question, you ask it here. Now, the key to make this work is to NOT ask questions like "What is your favorite lift?" A question like that will kill this thread, unless people completely ignore it! Questions like "What is the world record squat?" and "How do I use proper form on a powerclean?" are good. Only lifting related questions should be asked. "How do I talk to a girl?" is NOT an acceptable question here. Ideally, a question will be asked, and only members who know what they are talking about and can back up their answer will try to answer the question.

Hopefully, once this thread gets going, it will eliminate the need for countless threads on the same thing. Maybe a question will be asked multiple times, but at least it will be in one place.

Now, I don't want anybody responding to this and saying if it is a good or bad idea because it is pointless. ONLY post in here if you have a question or want to answer a question that is asked.

    You may all begin.

ok, i have a question for you

in gym, they are doing this new thing with the weight room so i can be there every day. so my question is, how i can utilize this time, because it will probably only be 30 minutes at most and maybe not that long? how beneficial would it be to do part of my workout there at school, and then go to the gym later and do the rest of my workout?

    thanks!

By using the sneak attack method. Curl using the leg extender, your bicep will never see it coming and you'll get 5000% increase in size!

What does...I think it's called "bodybuilding", what does that mean?

Seriously, I guess I'll start this one off, now I just have to think of a good question...

Is powerlifting alone really safe? It seems that constant heavy pressure on your joints could lead to long term injuries (back problems, knee problems) that don't go away, and start to occur as you get older as a result of powerlifting. Is there a practical way of setting up powerlifting and bodybuilding cycles, where the stress from powerlifting would be taken away during the bodybuilding cycle, so when you start back up with PL'ing, your joints are as good as new? Maybe something like an 8 week cycle of Westside (with 1 week of deloading in the middle), followed by maybe 6 weeks of bodybuilding (HST, perfect for hypertrophy, and easy on the joints)?

    Yes.

If diet and exercise is in order, you shouldn't really have to dip under 12x BW for total calories, and 155x12 = 1,860. Start at 2,200 maybe, and if you're not losing weight, drop 200 calories, and keep doing so until you're satisfied with the amount of weight you're losing. Cutting can be a gradual process, you want to try and eliminate as much fat, and as little muscle as possible.

As long as you warm up well each day, avoid failure, and progress slowly (don't jump by more than 10 pounds in each workout for the maximum weight you use), your joints should be fine, unless you start getting really strong. Then you might want to consider getting wraps. However, powerlifters do at times take breaks from lifting heavy to let their joints recover, so doing a cycle of HST should work perfectly.

And yes, answer all questions you want.

Everybody else, ignore the irrelevant questions. The first one by Amy is good, and I'll answer that in a bit if nobody else does.

You can probably make that work if you do different bodyparts each time. However, I would just do cardio in gym, spot others, train your grip or other small bodyparts (calves, etc.), do homework, read, or do something else so you can completely focus on your workout at the gym.

Grr, give me a link to something that explains Westside. I honestly haven't read up on it that much. Do you mean the part about working up to a 3 rep max only, or are you supposed to train to failure at other times as well?

933 pounds by Andy Bolton. AND, it looks like it won't be broken for a while. I believe Garry Frank has said that he has settled for a 900 pound deadlift and will move towards a 1,200 pound squat and a 900 pound bench press in the hopes of achieving his dream- a 3,000 pound total. Honestly, if anyone is going to break it I think it will be a strongman turned powerlfiter. Of course, Bolton might be able to break it, but he didn't get close in his last meet and he might start doing full power meets.

So, basically, give me 20 years and I'll break it.

    Thumbs up

    Two Questions.

    1. today in the gym i heard this guy saying that when u do a chinup (closegrip) it works more of the lats rather than the wide grip. i always thought it was the other way around and that closegrip would give u a workout in the middle region of the back. True or False.

    2. Am I Gay?

    1. Using a closer grip will possibly give you a greater range of motion. Going too wide will be bad for your shoulders. Honestly, I don't think it matters that much.

    2. Maybe

    1. I think wider grip targets inner and close grip targets outer lats and biceps
