Ya, I was wondering this too. What would prolly be the best job that would be closest to bodybuilding? I wanted to do something with computers awhile ago, but I hate them now. They never work, and just have loads of trouble with them.
Is being a personal trainer a good job? Like is that a pretty good job, money wise? And if so, what would you go to college for?Currently: 17 years old
Weight: 160 pounds

THE MOST PRESTIGOUS JOB U CAN GET CORELATING WITH BB;ING WOULD BE A PHYSICAL THERAPIST IT'S A LOT OF SCHOOL BUT GOOD MONEY LIKE IF SOMEONE GOT IN A CAR ACCIDENT U HELP HIM WITH SIMPLE EXCERCISES TO GET HIM BACK IN STABLE CONDITION. AS FOR BEING A PERSONAL TRAINER THAT JOB KINDA BLOWS DONKEY NUTZ ANY BOD DICK OR HARRY THESE DAYS IS A PERSONAL TRAINER AND THE PERSONAL TRAINERS AT BALLYS ARE A BUNCH OF CROOKED SALES PEOPLE THAT TRY TO SUCK YOU OUT OF ALL YOUR MONEY. ONE OF MY GOALS IN THE FUTURE IS TO OPEN UP MY OWN 24 HOUR GYM UNLIKE ANY OTHER GYM BEFORE.

I considered physical therapy but honestly it's a LOT of schooling and I'm going into radiology which is only a two year course and pays fairly well for a two year degree, around 20-30 bucks an hour around here.
When I get out of school and start making money working I'm considering doing a variety of things, one of which is saving up my money and starting a gym, but it depends on a lot of things.
drugsarebadforu, what part of Ohio are you from?

Just as a point of clarification, PT = Physical Therapist, not Personal Trainer.
Personal Trainers come in a variety of ways. There aren't really any standards because there are so many places that can certify you. Personally, I'm going to get an ACE Personal Trainer Certification in the next year and train kids at my college's gym. A friend of mine was a trainer in college. The college charged $25/hour and he got $18 of that. The only trouble was that he only got like 4 hours per week.
I haven't taken the test, but from what I've been told, if you're really into bodybuilding/fitness/nutrition, all but the legal questions will be common knowledge to you.
At places like Bally's though, it doesn't really come down to how much you know. It comes down to how motivational you look. My friend trains more for self-defense/strength (heh... he lives in downtown Chicago) and even though he can do a clean sets of ass-to-grass squats of 315 with his 165lb frame, he doesn't look the part. Bally's wouldn't hire him.
As far as the pay goes, it's a crapshoot. Some places will hire you as that college did my friend. Some places will have you like an independent contractor and you just pay them a flat fee to hustle their clients. Other places will make you pay a percentage of your earnings. It really varies from gym to gym.
I've also got several friends who are going into Physical Therapy. That's honestly near a doctor as far as education goes. Most PT majors must take ~18 credit hours all through college to graduate with the necessary requirements.Memento Mori
Only at bodybuilding.com would there be thousands of fans of bodybuilding who refuse to admit that bodybuilders use steroids. If you think steroids are cheating, follow a sport that is regulated by the WDA.

My dream in life is to become a united states marine. After a couple years of infantry service i want to physically train other marines during boot camp, i.e. DI. currently junior in highschool. Already gone to the recruiter, I feel great to know that my ultimate dream is close and achievable through hard work.

I believe the most respected certification is the ACE certification. They have ones for different specific areas of training and for general training. You have to know CPR to even take their classes though. I'm not sure how much it costs.Memento Mori

Fitness Careers
I am currently getting my undergrad in kinesiology at UW-Milwaukee and then Im going straight to UW-Madison to get my undergrad in nutrition. If all goes well I can have the 2nd degree done in 9 months after this one. Plan on taking both degrees into a personal training/strength and conditioning type field so I can work with the general public and athletes on topics of fitness, sport performance and nutrition. Gotta stay well rounded and versitle to keep all possible clients open to your services. I already put in 6 solid months as a personal trainer at Bally Total Fitness this summer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin so I got a good taste of things so far. I also got NSCA-CPT certified early this past spring, plan on getting my CSCS certification right after I complete my undergrad here at UWM. Had to give up the personal training job for my resident assistant job I am taking up this year in the dorms at UWM. Cant work off campus if your a resident assistant. No big deal though, I get free room and board and 250 bucks a month to supervise the dorms every other weekend, evenings and nights only. Next summer I plan to start private training on my own.

I am training to be a fitness instructor and a sports nutrionist and i am looking to become a fitness coach at one of the top soccer clubs in england as coaches and instructors in britian are impossible to get hold of, and the pay is exceptional as the clubs turn over a rake of profit.
