# Thread: How much body fat % can you lose per week?

1. ## How much body fat % can you lose per week?

I am always seeing thread about how much weight you can lose in a week (and I am guilty of this too) but now I have a different question.

By how much can you reduce your body fat weekly, being safe.
My goal is to be at 225 lbs by the end of December and have 18-20 % BF.

So wanted to know.

2. bump

3. It depends on ur current weight and BF%

Example,u r 298 lbs,if u lose 3 lbs per week u lose 1% BF per week,if u lose 2 lbs per week,u lose 0.67% BF per week,assuming u dont lose any muscles

And this % increase for same poundage u lose if u gain muscles.

Hope this helps

4. I heard something like 1 percent for every 3 pounds

6. i can lose 1 to 1.5 a week...tis a hard week though lol

7. i dont think u can even put an estimate on it because take my case for example, i went from training in football and having a 16% bf cuz i was eatin bad **** in college and hit this summer went on a strict diet, hit the weights hard, did fball drills, and lil running. I weigh the most i have ever had 186, beginning of the year i weighed 172. i came out of school weighing around 183. so i gained about 3lbs from being on a strict diet and have lost fat and have made incredible strength gains.

I see, you gained muscle while burning fat.

ya which is my point that if u burn fat and gain muscle, its really dependent on the person, because of metabolism, genetics, etc.....u cant really estimate except maybe loss weight to body fat but too many different scenarios.

10. I think 2-5% per month is a realistic goal. 5% being of the strickest though.

11. thanks for all the good info.

When I was almost your weight (285), I lost like 8 pounds the first week - probably mostly water - then was able to maintain an average of about 2.25 pounds of weightloss per week over time. Some weeks it'd be like 3 or 4 pounds, some weeks nothing. About 1% per week tops.

I wasn't doing much weight training then though (this was a few years ago). Just a lot of cardio and dieting.

Now, while weight training and dieting (and now at 198 pounds), I'm lucky to lose 1 pound in a week, while gaining some muscle. But the differences in my appearance happen either way and reflect that I'm adding some muscle. 1% bf reduction every 2 or 3 weeks.

I hope that helps.

13. thanks

14. Not sure about how much body fat % per week, but I do know that losing the bodyweight gradually (as in 1-2 pounds per week) is the best way to go to ensure you're losing mostly all fat and not hard-earned lean muscle.

If you cut your calories too drastically all at once and begin losing more than 2 pounds per week on average, you WILL be losing lean muscle along the way...which is not what you want, as this only slows down your metabolism...not speed it up for optimal fat loss and muscle preservation.

Hope this helps some.

15. thanks

16. I Read That It's Possible To Lose Up To Five Pound A Week But It's Unhealthy, 1 To 2 Pounds A Week Is A Healthy Amount.

17. You can't really say what BF% you can lose a week, because it would be almost impossible (and extremely dangerous) to try to lose a certain %BF weekly. Rather, it is whatever percent fat you calculate after losing a max of 2 lbs of fat a week.

Losing 2 lbs at 180lbs is a lot different BF% than losing 2 lbs at 100lbs.

18. ## you can lose a safe two to three pounds a week

19. 1% a week sometimes a bit more
